pasteurize/sterilize casing material?

Is it necessary to pasteurize or sterilize casing material? I am undecided as whether to use straight verm or with peat+lime.
I have seen some teks that don't even mention purifying the casing material, implying its irrelevant.
Anyone consistently successful w/o it?

I steralize my verm,but thats just me.I went with a strait verm case and,have had some pretty good results for being my first casing and,using only 3 cakes im very happy.
