sterilizing casing.... ?

i've made casing with verm/oyster shells/peat once and sterilized it in the oven :P it worked OK, but...

I don't have any peat/oyster shell, so I was reading this:
casing for dummys in a search for a casing recipe that used just verm....

there's no mention of sterilizing the casing... should I bother?
