There is hardly any garbage on the streets, we've got a street cleaning crew. Beaches are pretty damn clean too. I don't see much trash around the beach, and when I do it's collected with other trash. Littering is terrible, but I don't do anything about it besides throwing my trash away and recycling. I blame ignorant and arrogant humans for thinking that littering is no big deal. I'm not entirely sure what can be done to prevent this, because jerks will be jerks and I have little faith in society.

In the outskirts and City areas, yes.

The beach, not a lot, it's kept clean by trucks.

My concerns about plastic littering are the same as any other items; it's ugly.

Kids, and poor people.

More education? It is almost unpreventable as kids disdain the laws of our society and poor people generally lack the self-respect to keep their neighborhood clean.

On the streets there's always rubbish around, not ridiculous amounts but like anywhere, some
Hardly any garbage in the water, sometimes on high tide at the river mouth
It's a shit when your surfing and pretty disgusting if there is any around in the water
I'd blame the school on the river. I used to go there and it was dam messy, the rubbish was blown into the river
They have tried a lot to prevent it, but kids are stupid and it would take a lot to stop it. They even tried using fines but that didn't work.

Wow, thanks for your replies. Although my topic was about plastic being an issue to the ocean communities :rofl2:.  I learned a lot about how bad plastic was for the environment and how biodegradable products claim a safer plastic.  This is not true as it will still take up to 10 years (Under the right conditions) for it to fully degrade.  10 years!  The other week I found an old Josta soda bottle laying in the woods.  They stopped making this years ago!

-Make something up , New Jersey.

Is garbage an issue around your community?
-Minor issue relatively speaking.

How much trash do you see around the beach?
-Not very much, the beaches I frequent are never very crowded though.

What are your concerns about plastic littering?
-Kills wildlife, pollutes waterways, does not degrade quickly, and ugly.

Who do you blame for the garbage? Why?
-Businesses who don't dispose of waste properly and private citizens who assume roadside littering and littering in general is acceptable.

What do you think can be done to prevent this?
-Education at an earlier age. What makes me pick up after myself is that I hate seeing garbage around my town and in nature. Also, the fact that 'biodegradable' products still take long periods of time to disappear is enough for me to not leave it on the ground.

I'd say garbage is an issue everywhere, but in my community, yes i guess it is.

I see a fair amount of trash, I don't want to think about how much is probably under the surface as well. Many people litter in Vancouver, it's gross. The fact that people throw litter around anywhere is disgusting.

My concern is that it stays there for so long, it's a danger to wildlife around it and everyone else. It's bad for the environment.

Everyone is to blame. People litter, it's terrible.

I agree, with the education at an earlier age. A cleaner place is a happier place. People need to see that. People should be making more of an effort to find the nearest garbage and or recycling..Or keeping their trash with them until they find one. It's really not that difficult. Even bringing your own bag to store your garbage until you find somewhere to dispose.

It makes me sad when I see garbage everywhere.
