how exactly would this be a "useless surgery" if it improves his self-esteem? I am sure there are things that you purchase that others' would say are useless, so why give him shit because you have a bias against plastic surgery?

how much do you donate to charity?

First of all, Im not giving him shit, Im just making a suggestion for an alternative.

And how do you know if this will improve his self-esteem? What if the doctor fucks up? What if after this surgery he goes in an OCD frenzy of 'improving' his face, MJ style? You really cant make predictions for this kind of thing, changing your facial structure is a very unpredictable experiment.

Material goods rarely provide happiness, but in most cases just make us want to get more, and better product, while internal gratification like donating is 99% not regrettable. Plus, most the time it's tax deductible.

And does it matter how much I donate? Is this a 'I know you are, but what am I' argument?

Seems his nose bothers him - an improvement in appearance often gives one confidence to move on with their lives and meet new people. Is it a sure shot toward high self-esteem? No, but quite likely it'll make him feel better about his appearance - this can go a long way.

Considering that rhinoplasty is incredibly common in the western world, I doubt that'll happen. He should do research and find a reputable doctor with a high number of operations.

I had plastic surgery on my ear and it was quite succesful. I was in a terrible accident several years ago and my ear was disfigured - it bothered me everytime I looked in the mirror. I decided to get it re-shaped. I am no longer troubled by a deformed ear - Am I wrong for doing this? Tell me I am, man. Tell me I am superficial for doing it.

What if you get hit by a car while driving (which is probably 1000x more common than rhinoplasty errors)? Should you never, ever drive to prevent this?

Rhinoplasty is hardly "experimental" anymore.

I didnt realize that body modifications are "material goods" or "products". Are the developed muscles from working out a "material good"? What about a tattoo?

I can tell you this: I feel much better for not having to feel bad about my ear anymore - it is back to normal and I feel better. So, you're wrong.

No, it is a simple question. Whenever someone spouts off on how others' should donate this or that, I am always curious if they ever follow their own advice. Ususally and sadly, the answer is no.

Whatever, man. You had a physical disfigurement due to an accident, this guy's trying to nitpick minor adjustments on his face. Men dont need to look pretty. You want to look good, exercise, lead a healthy lifestyle.  Pobody's nerfect.

Here's all the perfectness women'll want anyway:

I do not see what the difference is. My ear functioned just fine - I simply wanted to look better/feel better and was tired of my appearance. The surgery was 100% cosmetic and consisted of "minor adjustments". RandalFlagg is exactly the same in wanting rhinoplasty.

Am I superficial for having plastic surgery? Am I wrong for doing this?
