yeah thats the kind you want but you should buy them from somwhere that grows for the latex not the seeds , you want high morphine , and other chemical, content. i beleive people are trading some in the spore exchange forum right now. try not to buy from a grocerie store.

yes, the ones from the grocery store are bred for high seed content, not high alkaloid content. you will still get some useable morphine from the plant, but not nearly as much as you would from ones that are specifically bred for high alkaloid content.

That's not always true.
Poppy seeds for eating are often a byproduct of the opiate industry hence are good yielding varieties

This debate has been ongoing, has anyone actually grown the store bought version?

I've had admirable success with store bought seeds. My particular grocery (IGA) stocks a variety of Persian Whites @ $2.75 for 75g of seed(about 6000 of em'). I achieved a 90% germination rate ending up with about 600 poppies in a 35'x15' garden.

if you don't trust the local grocery, try www.richters.com. They stock two varieties of opium poppies, both of which are premium quality @ a premium price.

If you really want to go all out and get the REAL thing, try www.izmirpoppy.com. They have every variety of P. Somniferum known to man! pricey as fuck, but worth it to some.

My best results have been with the IGA seeds.

H

I had great success last year with store bought poppy seeds.

100g of seeds cost $2.00, I sowed the whole lot over 6 square meters. They thrived and now I have several hundred grams of dried pods for tea.

PS. poppy seeds weigh about 0.5mg each so 75g would be 375,000 seeds.
