Edit:  Why?  Because azn languages sound amazing - and China is the most important asian economy, and likely will be throughout the majority of my lifetime.



Let me know if you want the Rosetta Stone version, I have it and could make a copy for ya...Maybe do a little trade. I also have a pimsleur language set for Chinese (This is all Mandarin, not Cantonese)

I went to a grade school where curriculum was taught in Spanish so I really had no choice

I took 3 years of Chinese Mandarin in high school. I didn't want to learn Spanish so it was the alternative. I don't remember much.

French because I had to take it in school (Canada) and it's on everything so I just kind of picked it up, somewhat.

German, because I wanted to. Very poor German.

it was required at the middle school I went to in Maine (and was the only language option) so I continued to take it up to level 3 in high school

gonna work through Rosetta Stone this summer so I can sharpen my skills to place out of it at the uni I transferred to

English. Originally to be able to watch American TV shows in their original version (French dubbing is usually awful and you have to wait for like a year for them to produce it).

I'm past that trivial motivation now. English is obviously required to read the international press and most of the Internet...

Meh it's okay. It's useful especially because a lot of the (illegal) parties are in the french side of Belgium.

Nice language but it tends to rust fast with me :blush:

Grew up on Spanish and learning french per Rosetta stone because its such a beautiful language. I love the culture. Want to be able to apply it to a career or just get my mac on all sexy like..My goal to is to be like the Merovingian from the matrix.:grin:

my kids have been learning sign language from the first day of school

half the town is deaf, makes for some funny arguments in restaurants

I learned Spanish in high school because it seemed the most logical language to take at the time.  I can still understand quite a bit, but have trouble speaking the language.

I learned Japanese when I was in Japan.  My wife was Japanese, and when in Rome...  I still understand and speak it quite well.

Now I'm working on Thai. I'd like to move there someday. It is much more difficult for me.

Oh, and I teach English, so I kinda had to learn all the rules that most natives are only vaguely aware of.
