Re: A criminal? I don't think so... [Re: Skikid16]

But the state didn't get pregnant and have those who can't find aid from private charities.

Come again?

BTW, I'm not a right winger, in fact, I mostly vote democrat, but sheesh, the woman left her child out in the cold, she deserves to be punished, and severely at that. (granted that she isn't mentally ill)

Read the post before you reply. I SAID she deserves to be punished.

hongomon writes:

To those of you who think the woman is a monster who needs to be punished: would it change your minds if she were schizophrenic, or otherwise incapable of caring for herself, let alone for a baby?

Good grief, people -- this is what the courts are for. The surest way to see she receives a prompt psychiatric evaluation is to charge her with a crime. You can rest assured that the VERY FIRST thing her attorney will do is file a motion for such an evaluation. It's standard procedure. As a matter of fact, the courts probably won't even wait for a motion from her attorney -- they'll do it automatically.

What were they supposed to do, for crying out loud -- hand her the business card of a psychiatrist, tell her to call him up for an appointment first thing in the morning on her cell phone. tip their hats and say, "Be sure to let us know how it all worked out, ma'am"?

Does a single one of you honestly think there is no evidence with which to charge her? If the cops got the wrong person (easily determined with DNA testing) she will be released. If they got the RIGHT person, the COURTS will decide whether or not her actions were criminal or those of a deranged mind, not a bunch of mushroom cultivators on an internet website.

If she is deemed incompetent to assist in her own defense, she will be ordered institutionalized by the courts -- she will never see the inside of a prison. If she is deemed competent to assist in her defense (which will be paid for by the public, since she as an indigent is entitled to a court-appointed attorney) and found by the jury to be not guilty by reason of insanity, she will never see the inside of a prison.

If she IS found guilty, she STILL may never see the inside of a prison, depending on what the judge decides is the appropriate sentence -- she may receive a suspended sentence and be forced to attend therapy, she may be placed on probation. She may kill herself out of remorse, if those watching her cell aren't sharp enough. She wouldn't be the first mother who committed infanticide to attempt suicide.

The woman hasn't been convicted yet, and MAY NEVER BE.

What a tempest in a teapot. Go back to whining about tax cuts on earnings from dividends.

That said, however, the self-righteous condemnation that the right wingers or libertarians or whatever they want to call themselves are displaying on this thread is a fucking joke, hypocricy at its height. If you would take away the state's capacity to protect and care for the helpless and the abandoned if you would leave all those who can't find aid from private charities or individuals to die because the state shouldn't be allowed to drop one red cent on anything other than policemen or soliders, then you're consigning many innocent and defenseless children to die just as readily as that woman did.

If you are not in a position to have kids, don't have them. If you are pregnant
and have no interest in raising the baby, there are options available to you.

If that woman was competent, I think she was more than capable of leaving
the baby at a hospital, giving it up for adoption, or attempting to get her life
together.

And, as for your argument against the libertarians, you say that we condem
her for her actions, but refuse to give her help. I see nothing wrong with people
voluntarily helping this woman. I do see something wrong with my tax dollars
being taken away by force to subsidize other people and their mistakes that
I had nothing to do with.

How dare we demand that people support themselves and take responsibility for
their own lives and actions... We have such gall....

No shit, pinky. All I wanted to know was whether certain posters would still be calling her a cunt and saying she should be tied to a stake IF she were found to be mentally ill.

You can rest easy--no one here was trying to get the court proceedings underway.

My response is the state did give birth to, in your words "the helpless and the abandoned" or "all those who can't find aid from private charities " , so why should the state be responisble for them?

Yes I would. I don't feel mental illness is a valid defense.

The cunt should be tied naked to a stake and allowed to freeze.

How is it not a valid defense? How can you be punished for doing something wrong, when you can't determine what wrong or right is?

Wow luv, usually, I can see your points, and appreciated them, I may not necessarily agree with them, but I respect them, but this one was a new precident.

Oh, so coherence wasn't the problem. See, I thought when you said "albeit incoherently" that it was.

Here's the comment in this thread I was referring to.

Gosh, I'm so relieved I have your permission to have a different opinion than you.

There were others, like your most recent response to me in another thread, but...

...whatever.

Nearly kill a baby, so what. She can have more and next time who knows where she'll leave it.

I guess you haven't noticed, but over half the population in jail is there because of drug charges. If you think they're scumbags then WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE?

Apparently, you have the comprehension of a rock. Did you see me write "all prisoners" anywhere in my posts?
Here it is again for you since it seems your reading skills suck.....
"Why am I not surprised you feel the need to help prisoners who in all likely hood, are scumbags who deserve to be where they are?"

Perhaps if you read between the lines while standing on your head after stabbing your eyes with a stick you could read that into it.

So I'll borrow your words and ask...
"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE?"
Stupidity? I don't know.

But that's the point, mentally ill people don't necessarily have an "eye" they don't have the mental capacity to make right or wrong decisions.

Hey man, I'm in no way defending this ladies actions, hell I was the first one to say she should be punished, but if she's not right in the head, I don't think you can punish her 1) you can't make her see what she did was wrong and 2) you can't deter other mentally ill people from doing the same thing because they cannot make logical connections.\

That's all I'm shouting.
