A couple of thoughts... 1. Do you think OSHA represents the american workforce fairly? 2. Workers unions have decreased from 30 percent to 10 percent since the initiation of OSHA. 3. Do you think there is need for workers unions for every place of business?

1. NO they're a bunch of reactionary liberals (on most issues)..they refuse to take cost in consideration and screw up the free market 2. and the unions are becomming more petty as the years go by....it's too bad because the foundation set down by gophers, John Lewis, Walter Reuther, and to a lesser extent hoffa where really fair and represented the"hard working" americans...not the union today that complain when their work area is 80 degrees. 3. maybe...at one time the union was great. I would support a union if they took in consideration merit a little more. The unions cater to the weakest link. It's no wonder socialist run it...the idiots are treated the same as those that want to work. I wish there were more professional unions that covered those white collar workers that have to babysit the union members. this is one of my favorite topics..thanks for bringing it up...

OSHA RULES... OSHA is the dept that makes work safe.. Without OSHA standards we would all be in trouble.. They do tests in every day products for safety and reliability, They test chemicals and make proper MSDS reports, they petition government groups for workers rights in relation to issues of environment and health care and all in all they are GOOD.. Now Unions.. Well.. FUCK UNIONS.. I have been in the United Comercial Food Workers Union for 8 years and they have done nothing for me.. NONE of the hundreds of thousands of airline workers who lost their jobs recently will get nothing for the thousands of dollars they put into their unions. Unions negotiate for better wages.. BULL SHIT... Union contracts are settled by strikes when it comes to wages, while on strike union members get paid less than $3 an hour, put them on strike for 30 days for that 12 cent raise and they have to work 5 years for that extra 12 cents to make up for a months lost wages. Unions hurt workplace productivity by allowing seniority to accell rather than performance. Why do you think their are soo many high paid fat lazy slobs in power positions? OSHA is now doing a better job than Unions ever did and they dont charge a membership fee.

Unions are a good idea, they empower people over faceless corporations and in theory, attempt to bring about a leveling of rights within the workplace. But our current social state /undercuts/ the viablity of unions (it has been trying to do so since America began to Unionize simply because Unions decrease profit margins for the rich ) by enacting legislation that completely compromises their entire purpose. It's great that there is a United Auto Workers Union, but if GM is loosing too much money with its plant in Michigan, it has the right due to Nafta to lay off all its workers and start a new plant in Mexico. If the Union is demanding too much, just close the plant and start a new one in a foreign country with no wage laws and minimum taxation for American buisnesses. Disregard that this puts thousands of people out of work here in the US ('they put themselves out of work with all of their Union demands'), disregard that it completely destroys any 'middle class'. It is this kind of mentality to 'shut up and work or else' that turns people into slaves. It is this mentality that makes the rich get more so while everyone else suffers. Ish

Well, if it wasn't for union dues helping fund Democrats there wouldn't be any OSHA. The GOPers have been trying to gut it every year. Right now there are terrible accidents in meat packing and buthcer plants throughout Texas. But they have no union and the GOPers aren't going to protect them. Yes, unions have allowed some incompetent and lousy workers to abuse the system. SO what? You don't think the wealthy abuse the system? How do you think most jobs happen? It's called networking. And a poor guy doesn't exactly network with the boss now does he? I'm not worried about the unions. The problem is that the unions are all divided. It's a smart ploy... Divide and conquer. The Airp[line pilots don't support the flight attendents who don't support the mechanics and so on. The teamsters and others are all out for number one. .. But some day they will unite under a political party. It's all tied to the average income.. And with more and more minorities and current Republican policies, we're gonna have a lots and lots of poor folks... Then you will begin to see more organization. The pendalum will begin to swing the other way.
