Questions about spent coffee and gypsum
    #12513340 -

So, I'm gonna start my second "grow" here soon, and i was thinking of adding spent coffee and gypsum to my pf jars this time, it went great last time, but more fruits is always good

few questions:

1. what do these things add? I guess the gypsum would add calcium? and spent coffee?

2. what amounts? think i've heard 1 tbs for 1 cup verm, what about the grounds?

3. what differences might i notice in growth?

4. i only have a french press, that cool?

so good to be back to the shroomery...

If I remember correctly, gypsum is there to keep grains from sticking. I'm not sure if it'll help with PF Tek. I saw a tek on Shroomery once from a TC in which he/she suggested adding coffee as a substitute to a portion of the water in the PF Tek. I forget the exact ratio, but I've done it with little noticeable differences. If you choose to do it, I recommend PCing for 90 min. just because coffee invites contams.
As far as the French press goes, it's cool if you're trying to catch a caffeine buzz. But seriously, I don't see why it would make a difference when using spent grounds for cultivation.

Use one tablespoon of gypsum if desired for the basic recipe for five 1/2 pint jars.  It will add calcium and sulfur and you'll get larger and more fruits.  Don't use spent coffee grounds.  They're a bulk substrate ingredient and will only dilute the BRF which is already the most nutritious substrate known.  If desired, you can make the BRF cakes with diluted liquid coffee to lower pH.

I've used gypsum in my cakes, but I really noticed a difference in my cakes when I used half strenth coffee. It colonized faster in my own non-scientific test, side by side. I swear by non-fat dry milk

What exactly is "half strength coffee"?

I've got some old unused coffee grounds in the fridge that I was gonna throw out.

Whats a good recipe to make to use it? I haven't made coffee in AAAGES.

Do I use this to replace all the water in a recipe?

Would you want to use this to say good or soak your grains in?

paducahovoids

how do you use milk powder?

Thanks!

I make coffee, and then when I figure how much water I need, I fill the measuring cup half that much with coffee and the rest of the way with water. Instructions on the coffee. In that cake, I made the substrate, added 1/2tbsp. milk powder for each cup-worth, mixed it in and put it in the jars. I can't say for grains, but if you are using gypsum, calcium of any kind or any buffer, coffee is basic and will change your ph something to consider as far as modifying someone elses grain tek.

My coffee is from some fancy coffee place. Just some grounds in a bag. I kinda think that 2 Tablespoons per cup rings a bell. Anyone got anything on coffee recipe?

Can you use coffee with gypsum? And what role does PH have in PF cakes? How about grains?

EDIT:

Found this site. Says 2 TBS to 6 oz of water.

2 tbsp a cup would be SUPER strong. 1/2 tbsp a cup is what I use The amazing thing about pf is that it just naturally has the right minerals and ph to promote myc. growth and suppress bacteria. If the ph gets too low or high it won't grow and/or bacteria will. You may think that no bacteria is getting in your cakes, but you are wrong. The myc. just outgrows it and neutralizes it(ideally)

So you use 1/2 teaspoon per 8 oz of water? and do you use that as your water, or do you dilute that by half?

Thanks for your time.
