Bleach tek questions....

I am a bit confused on the bleach tek stuff....

the 100:1 water:bleach ratio, how much do I need to put into a gallon of water for this ratio???

Also, I saw stuff about using vinegar to adjust the pH level in the water.... what amount do I need to put into the gallon jug of water? Also does it matter what type of vinegar I use?

also, what's the optimal amount of time I should use for post-flush dunks and pre-first-flush dunk???

all recommendations and suggestions are welcome...

you would need to make this formula:
1 ounce bleach, 2 ounces vinegar for every 1 gallon of water.

Typically, you would dunk your cakes in this solutions for 24 hours after the cake has fully colonized. Then, after you pick your flush and clean your cake, do it again and put back in fruting chamber and wait for second flush.

So are you saying that there's 100 oz's in a gallon?

the ratio is 100:1

so you need to add 1 part bleach for every 100 parts of water.

There are 128 oz's in a gallon so you need to add exactly 1.28 oz's of bleach per gallon.

Or 37.8541 milliliters of bleach per gallon.

so I want to put in 2 tablespoons of bleach and 4 tablespoons of vinegar into one gallon of water...?

could I cut those quantities in half 1tbs. bleach and 2 tbs vinegar???

also, is it recommended to bleach dunk or just dunk with regular water?

correct,
2 tablespoons bleach/4 tablespoons vinegar is pretty close to maximum strength,
use white vinegar.
but you can use a more dilute solution such as cutting those amounts in half.
so far it seems best to do the long dunk in regular water, followed by a fast dip in the sanitizing solution [10 minutes or so.]

people should use whatever they have and are familiar with.
there's no good point in my giving all the measurements in metric units when many folks have only tablespoons and measuring cups to use.
so i give it both ways.

I meant no disrespect hippie. It just seems easier when everything is a factor of ten. Measuring cups have metric units on them and the ones I've tested w/ graduated cylinders are accurate. Maybe I should have said that. sorry...

hey thanks for clearing things up...

hmm, so doing a long regular water dunk followed with a 10 min flash dunk is the best...

Does the plain water need to be steralized first or can I just get it out of the faucet and use it?

Could I pour some h202 into the tap water to sterilize it then let it sit for a little so the h2o2 can break down so it wont harm my cakes?

you can use tap water fine for the dunk.
i find that peroxide in the dunk water seems to hurt the cake so i don't recommend it.
