Does the Honey tek "stretch" the power of your syringe? Like by doing the tek do you get more out of one syringe? Would you suggest that a nebwbie try this out? (It's only 2cc's right?) THanx

Honey Tek does "strech" the power of your syringe provided you don't have a bad syringe or pick up a contam. Honey contams very easily, in which case, you get nothing. Don't depend on honey as your only tek. Use it in addition to something else.

My friend ordered 3 syringes so he has some to waste. He is planning on trying the honey tek. He understands that it will start the growth of mycellium and promote quicker colonization speeds. He is aware that honey contaminates easily but was advised that a good shot of H2O2 will help to prevent this.

Dude,
My monkey says DONT USE PEROXIDE WITH SPORES, he says it really loud too. My ferral monkey's suggests if you want to try the honey tek with waste syringes. Make up a few little jars or honey water / malt extract ect. use baby food jars.. After pc'ing let them sit for a few days, contams will show up fairly quickly as cloudy media. In the sterile ones inject 1/2mL of spore syringe. Monkey says little white fluffy bits in the jars is good, thick soupy stuff that pulls faces at you is not. When little jar is full of white fluffy stuff suck it up into sterile syringe andoff you go, so says my mm,mmm, mmmm, monkey
Best of luck

ignore the monkey, use peroxide, and especially later when the growth gets started
i used an assload of peroxide and still got a full jar of mycelium. future innoculations with honey werent as sucessful as i would have like but, i didnt do that many.

what Duncan8r is saying is that h202 will prevent un-germinated spores from germinating... I have used a similar malt/water tek many times with great success. Just open the sterile jars very quickly over an open oven, and swipe in a few spores from a viable print, close and shake everyday. I usually lose one or two out of five 250mls to contams, but as soon as the other jars germinate, hit them with about 4ml for every 100mls. THis basically kills any ungerminated contams, but nearly also kills your mycelium.
Trust me, if you innoc. PF jars with this liquid, they will show mycelia within two days with good temps, and with that much h202, you will have zero contams!
- I find that reusing old malt water / mycelium doesnt seem to work as well for colonising quickness... not sure why
