PF Tek question
    #1019509 -

Hi,
Im a newbee and im starting my first grow in a week or so when my spores ( 1 B+, 1 Allen strain, 1 Golden Teacher from TLG) get here. I had a quick question though concerning the PF Tek (http://www.fungifun.org/pf/pf_en.htm) It says that I need a pressure cooker. The problem with that is I have no way of obtaining one. The other document that explains the PF Tek (http://www.shroomery.org/findorgrowthem.php?View=docs&doc=15) and it says "Steam sterilizing PF substrate jars with regular cookware is possible because there is no grain to cook up and the substrate is airy." I was wondering if its cool to just steam sterilize and get the same outcome as a pressure cooker or not..
Thanks.

Yes. Steam them in a regular pot with a lid for an hour.

Steam sterilizing works great for the pf recipie. A PC is optimal though.

Actually it says:

"If you are unable to find or buy a pressure cooker, you can also sterilize the jars using a big pot with a lid.
In this case steam the jars for 1.5 hours in a pot lid on."

If you can get a PC, use it.

There can be many variations, but from what I have read, 3 to 10 grams dry per cake is about the norm...

I know that you are curious about the yields, but its your first grow, be curious about doing it right. You are way ahead of yourself.

lol

my first attempt was with pf cakes and my yield was... 2 shrooms per cake

then i decided to work with casings. so, it doesnt really matter how much shrooms you are gonna produce - you will be happy if u can actually see at least one growing healthy.

its a feeling that really makes me go crazy from happiness!

You can obtain a PC - looking for a reasonable price, then go to Ebay and bid on one.....I haven't won a bid just yet, don't want to spend too much, but it looks like a little persistence will pay off and save quite a bit....they're not too cheap new!
