Panaeolus Cyanescens
    #850903 -

The teks that I have read online state that you can create an outdoor bed using spawn in the spring time, and then you can harvest in the fall...
I was wondering if it would be possible to create a bed in the fall, and perhaps get a flush in the early spring.
I haven't tried this species yet, and I'm a bit curious...

I just got a pan cyan spore syringe, and I want to try an outdoor bed, Will I be able to get any flushes before fall?

Panaeolus cyanescens is a fast species. It grows on dung/straw.
The time from inoculation on agar to harvest can be as short as 30 days.

It can be done indoors, but also outdoors in spring/summer.

Thanks alot, I think I will be trying indoors and out, I live in TX so it should work out good. One more question, if I start a bed outside, will it fruit before fall? or do I have to wait till after fall?

Thanks again.

Yep, you guy are the first to notice. I found it on E-bay, someone was selling an absinth kit, it had this picture. Me likes.

PS If pan cyan can be grown out in 30 days, why is it that all teks say harvest in fall. If I "cased" the beds outside, and took care of it like an indoor grow could I harvest before fall?

All teks you are refering to are for Psilocybe cyanescens. A wood eating temperate mushroom.

Panaeolus /Copelandia cyanescens is a subtropical/tropical species that eats manure. It can fruit all year long in the environments it grows in. It is FAST growing becasue it lives and its Manure which is a short lived substrate.

If you are growing P. cyanescens it would be better to wait for spring to put out your spawn, so it has a sufficient amount of time to eat the wood chips you will be spawning. It will fruit in late fall and early spring if conditions are right.

Trying to run mycelium through a bed of wood chips in the winter will be difficult. Mycelial GROWTH stops when it freezes, and is slow when temps are below 60F.

Please make sure you are discussing Panaeolus cyanescens or Psilocybe cyanescens so we may better help answer your questions.

It sounds like you are talking about Psilocybe cyanescens. Search both species and you will get a better idea.

It's a pan cyan Florida strain.
What about cubes? can they fruit all year long?
How long from placing in bed till first signs of mushroom? Approximately?

Thanks for the info. Very helpful.

That absinth is a modern version of the drink that is 60% proof and without many of the original additives although i am told it is still fermented wormwood and anise.
Panaeolus cyanescens has fairly weak mycelia and you would need to completely colonise the substrate (manure/straw) before making an outdoor bed and even then it may quick fall to contamination. Your better off indoors with them.
As for Ps.Cyanescens which is a woodlover, as it grows on a fairly selective substrate - alder etc - contaminants are less of an issue.

Both Pans and Cubes will fruit year long if your temps never go below freezing, consistently stay above 65 F, and have adequate moisture.

Bluemeanie is right, if doing Pans outdoor, it would be advisable to RUN your SPAWN and SUBSTRATE indoors unti fully colonized, and either fruit them indoors, or put the entire block outdoors.

Cubies will endure outdoors better then pans, but fruiting either outdoors will be limited compared to fruiting indoors.
