tan colored mycelium
    #1195236 -

today i noticed a light light brown/tan colored spot on one of my cakes. i birthed them two days ago and let them soak in water before i put them in my growth chamber. it's doesn't look like something that's growing over the mycelium, but more like it is starting to change color. there is just the one cake that is doing this. they were in jars for a really long time, when i took them out they were almost completely dry, so i let them soak overnight. i'm just curious if the mycelium has started to die on this particular cake or if it might be a contam. i've dealt with cobweb and the blueish green stuff before, but never seen anything like this.

Does it look like the mycelium is discolored or does it look like it is a seperate growth?

it definately looked like the mycelium had just changed color. it didn't seem to be spreading either. no bad smells. i wish i had a digital camera right now. as for it being a spot with simply a lot of moisture, i don't think so, but maybe.

I should have mentioned this in my first post but forgot to. You should seperate this cake from the others. I hope it's not to late if it is a contam. Sorry if it is.

Without a picture the only advice we can really give you is to just seperate it and watch it. If it seems like it is growing then it is best to just chuck it. No sense in risking your health for it.

Water droplets can often change the color of the mycelium so it could just be that but without a picture it is kind of hard to tell.
