Smooth, tan, apple smelling contam

Sorry that I don't have a pictre, but here we go. I just read anno's post and I'm really not sure if this was any of the contams listed. I had a cake that was knotted up. This changed and it all smoothed out and was somewhat shiny. This then stayed white on the very edges, but the rest was a light brown or tan color. It smelled like sweet apples, not rotting. Also, before I threw it out I put a bit of pressure on it and the light brown turned darker.

The 'sweet apple' description sounds bacterial. Impossible to ID from the descriptions. It could be a mixed contam, a little bacteria and a little mold. Sounds like you did the right thing, any odd smellers should be pitched.
