Mycelium is a strange color...
    #1514071 - 05/02/03 06:03 AM (20 years, 9 months ago)

Just a quick question. My cased grain (with potting soil) has been colonizing for about 3 weeks not. I just started fanning two days ago and I cold shocked in the fridge for 6 hours yesterday. When I got home this morning some of the mycelium mounds, above the casing, have started turning a very light tan color. (These aren't pins. One mound is 2inches in diameter.) The temp hovers aroune 80F. I don't have the capacity to lower the temp. consistently. Saran wrap is covering the container with holes punched in the top and two corners peeled back for better gas exchange. Does this sound like contam or are the mycelium spots just drying out? I've been having perfect luck until this point. I've had no contam with the jar inoculations or with my initial casing. My sub. depth is about 1-1.5 inches and casing depth about 1cm.

Any ideas?

They might be drying out, review Rh. The holes could be the culprit, it's better to have a more closed enviroment and make several air exchanges a day. Best solution to avoid manual air exchange in such situation is using a bubbler inside the terrarium. Are you using perlite ?
Don't use such a thin layer, it should be something like 2,5 to 4 cm. The bad thing about using a thin layer is that it dries very fast.
