Going to the Peruvian Rainforest

So I have managed to secure myself a volunteering opportunity down into the Peruvian rainforest to do some conservation/research work. I will be on the Manu Biosphere Reserve. I really wanted to tell you guys this because I am none to familiar with the plants of the South American rainforest, and I was wondering what you guys think I should keep a lookout for.
P.S. I regret being away from this forum for so long...

You should pick a bunch of coca leaves and make a huge ball of cocaine. Just kidding.

Take your camera and keep an eye out for any Cactaceae. Also take good clear pics of any Mushrooms and post them in Mushroom Hunting and Identification, not a lot of fungus pics from down there.

I'm not sure if you're in the right area, but look for diplopterys and virola! They are 2 really important ethnobotanicals which are pretty rare in the US. They aren't the easiest to cultivate either. And like others said- take lots of pics of all the mushrooms! Maybe collect a few prints too! Good luck!

Alright! Provided I have a camera, I will take pictures of all the mushrooms I can find. (Along with other things )
I will see if I am in the right area for diplopterys and virola, but I am not sure at the moment.
If I can find a way to collect mushroom prints, I'd be happy to.

If I'm not mistaken there should be various Psychotria strewn throughout there as well as B. caapi too.

I will definitely keep an eye out for them!
Assuming I'm not retarded, trichocereus pachanoi and peruvianus are also native to parts of Peru, so I'm going to keep my eyes peeled.
I'm also going to try to find a village shaman or something while I'm there, cause I'd like to learn about their customs and traditions. It would be interesting, to say the least. Maybe even... enlightening...

Did that cost a lot, or is your volunteering organisation paying for expenses?

It's costing an arm and a leg... But it will be worth every penny.
I'm definitely going to try to find some shamans, and hopefully will get the opportunity to experience ayahuasca and other native entheogens. I have high hopes for it. I can't wait to see what interesting things I can unearth. If I have a camera, I will definitely take some pictures for you guys!

I am not sure where it is. But if you can reach Iquitos, I would recommend you to go to a shaman I have been with. The experiences I had were beyond imagination. I am not speaking only of ayawaska, but connecting with plants, and their spirits. they call it doing diet with plants. Well, before I have been there, I didnt realy beleive this things. But the experiences were unforgetable. You can contact me by message. Or you can try another shaman you trust.
