the coir i buy is 100% coir. period not enriched coir.

coir contains nutes.. ITS PLANT MATERIAL

i dont mean to be a dick but any thing that was once a living thing or part of one has nutrients in it. it is just a question of whether something can consume it to get to the nutrients in said object.:imo:

but this doesn't mean you cant add more to it.:wink:

During these discussion, I once more checked on information about coir, and since we're talking about mushrooms here, I was indeed incorrect! Sorry :peace:

When it comes to plants, coir doesn't contain many nutrients, which is why it's used mainly for propagation purposes. Certain minerals are "added" (not on purpose) during the processing of the coir, such as potassium.

There are sorts of coir that are already enriched with certain other minerals (to function as a substitute for regular potting soil), but most of the times, they are untreated.

Probably as a result of a longer abstinence from mushroom cultivating, I did not calculate that mushrooms -as contrasted with plants- don't consume their "food" as plants do. When it comes to coir, the mushroom actually eats and metabolized the coir to a certain degree (so the material itself).

It seems, as if it's not really known what exactly the mushroom consumes though.

As said before, I was wrong concerning the lack of nutes in coir (because the coir itself seems to function as "nutes" when it comes to mushrooms).
