a 10 cc syringe can inoculate 12 jars.

What you SHOULD do is make a LC

well i am currently on my first grow and i made a lc incase of contams bc lc's fully colonzied can colonzie alot faster than just straight up spores into jar. If i was you i would do more than 1 or 2 jars due to its your first time and you could get contams. I say 5 or 6 half pint jars. the syringes will keep for quite sometime just use search engine ( thats the best thing here). Lc's will make 10cc=100cc and can be kept for months. What method are you doing?

well if i was you i would case the jars once they are fully colonzied. If you do cakes they are great but not worth the effort put into it. Casing is easier to me and you get alot better of a yeild. what strain?

A casing layer is a non nutritious layer that goes over your substrate. In this case (no pun intended) I'd assume that he means you should brake up the cake and either put in a tray and add a casing layer or layer the chunks in with a bulk substrate and then case that once it's fully colonized.

Personally, since this is your first time I'd dunk the cakes in water overnight once they are fully colonized and then roll them in vermiculite, put them in your fruiting chamber and then lightly mist the dry verm after an hour or two.

Wow i did not even relize there were so many ways to do this..

ok here is my plan, tell me if it will work..

#1 inoculate a few jars of 50/50 Verm/Wheat Flour with 10 ml each after they have been sterilized in a preasure cooker.

#2 stick in a shoe box under my bed and wait.

#3 Check them after 7-10 days to make sure there is no contam

now once they are FULLY colinized (3-4 weeks or more if needed) ... here is where everyone has different opinions...

Im all confused and i HAVE read the faqs

I need an operation that is small and simple..

please suggest away.. PICS are even better

This is what he is telling you to do Crumble and Case Tek

You can either do that or fruit the cakes directly as shown in this PF tek

Either will work but I would recommend the first. You'll get much better initial results if done properly.

ok i think i got most of my answers but have a few more (sorry i just want to do this right...

From my reading and the pics.. The shrooms (once caked) need no other substrate, they would grow sitting on aluminuf foil as long as the temp/humidity was correct. is this correct?
So i could basicaly colinize the jars and just dump em in to a plastic box as long as i find a way to keep the humidity up and temp correct..

That is absolutely correct. They just don't tend to produce quite as much. If you are going to do them that way I would suggest completely submerging the cakes in a container of water overnight and then rolling them in some dry verm. This will act as a casing layer for your cakes.

Ok .. thanks alot... i think i got all the info... i feel prepared.. between the reading and the quick answers, i think that ill have some great success

Oh.. annother question or 2..

Im im dunking and coater with verm, should i also cold shock (at the same time) like a refrigerated dunk?

And once i harvest do i just redunk and grow some more?

Cubensis is a species that requires no cold shocking because it is tropical. We use cold shocking for species that fruit in colder places/times of the year.

You were correct about redunking. After you pick your first flush you just dunk and roll again and you're good to go. Hope I helped.

That's funny, I was watching dirty jobs a while back and they were doing a MUSHROOM FARMING episode! And they had HUGE piles of compost/straw/poo that were STEAMING (it was cold out) And some white stuff, something to do with nitrates... not entirely sure. Huge steaming piles... And they aerated it with bulldozers. They were growing button shrooms, and had quite large FCs :-D

well the LC is working... i can see little bits of short stringy shit.. im assuming thats the myc growing

I did boil the water/honey before inoculating it with about .75 ml of a syringe

this is kinda fun.. it is my first time and im very excited to see if th method i created works to stave off contam.. if it does a good job ill do a write up, but it involves the cake jars being held inside gallon ziplock bags...

Day 2:

LC seems to be growing a bit. The short stringy shit is a bit longer (3 or 4 mm)

The other containers are foggy so thats good.

I found some new jars to use so im gonna make a few more cakes. I also have an oak ridge print on the way that im gonna use to replenish my syringe. I have never done that but my plan i was just gonna boil some distilled water, and put that in the syringe, and once that cooled i would add the spores.. sound about right?

Sounds like you're well on your way to success - especially seeing as you can manage to find teks! w00t!

Haha...but seriously, I'm thinking of cutting syringes completely and just making boiled water & honey Lc's by scraping a few spores from the print into them. Performed in a sterilised glove box with latex gloves and alcohol spray

Go LC Syringe!

OK i have my first try in the shoebox..

also have a new LC going with nice growth.. (my other LC did not work)

for my first try i used the ball plastic freezer cups with tyvec FAE.
i mixed my substrate based on the 1/4 1/4 1/2 - water flour verm
i PC'd it for like 40 min cause my PC sucks..
once pc'd and cooled, i took alot of care to clean my area and lysol the outside of the jar and clean my hands etc.
innoc'd the 3 plastic jars with 1.5 to 2 ml each
they are now sitting under my bed in a shoe box at about 75 degrees (give or take a few)
they were innoc'd friday night..
Im gonna take some pics tonight i think and get em posted..

Update..

My first cakes got contam (cobweb / fermentatin smell), so i did 3 more cakes (after altering my sterilility method) and an LC (just to try it out)

the cakes were innoc last fri and i can see definite myc growing in the cakes now. All 3 are showing growth and the myc is looking good, No cobweb to speak of in these cakes

I did forget to put the dry layer of verm, and i innitialy made the tyvec holes too big so jave covered them with foil and im keeping them in a cigar humidor.

I havent decided wether to case or not but im leaning tward casing 1 and letting the other 2 fruit right off the cake.

***********UPDATE***********

I started with 3 cakes, 2 got contaminated. One of the cakes is pristine, despite the lack of a dry verm layer.

That cake is 100% colonized as of yesterday and im spawning it to coir/coffee Saturday night.

Saturday I am also gonna make up about 5 more jars (some allen, some oak ridge)

Im buying a new digital camera too so i will soon be posting all the pics of my grows (next week prolly).

Im Very excited about this coir spawning because this is my first grow ever...

I think I started my stuff around the same time or a little later than you did.  It's great, isn't it?

That's my next step, making an LC.  I found an AWESOME tek on here the other day that I intend on following.

Anyways man, good luck.  Everything sounds great.  I've got 3 one pint cakes that are producing their first flush right now, they should be ready by tomorrow.  It's VERY exciting.

LCs are great!  i just did a few with Karo Water and they're really going strong it's great!

If you've got a glove box you and keep things clean you shouldn't have a problem with them.

I just punched some holes in the lids of a couple 1/2 pint jars, let some silicon glue set on both sides of all but one hole, and multispore taped the other hole for gas exchange.  Made up some Karo water and PC'd for 20 minutes.  Within 2 days I had little fuzzy balls all over the place.  After 7 days I've got a HUGE pile of fuzz.
(tape went on after pc'd)

Hope the casing goes good man

************UPDATE*************

well on friday i spawned this 1 perfect cake to coffe/coir (about 4 cups) the 4to 1 ration seemed kinda alot for the myc to take over in 5-7 days BUT i peeked today (shutup its mt first time and i wanted to see) and noticed that the myc that was on the top was fuzzy and reaching in to the coir... so its a massive assult on the coir from every direction... I suspect that this will be done in a week and then... i start fruiting my first mushrooms ever...
