Alarm clocks. A great evil, are they not?
I was just thinking one morning of the terrible physical pain of being sucked out of a pleasant dream by a shrill electronic noise, dragging my body out of a warm cozy bed into a cold painful tiredness. Sometimes have lain in bed, tired, but not even wanting to fall asleep out of anticipation of the shock of the alarm to come a few hours/instants later.
And that so many people rely on this mechanical sleep interruption to get them to work, every day, all their lives... It's a sensation that an animal in nature or a hominid in a cave would only experience when their sleep was broken by an attacking predator or a natural disaster. Imagine the stress of an event like that striking every morning. It still has the same effect on our primate psyche in modern times. And it's no wonder people are so jumpy and violent and tense.

I get to go to work whenever i want
so needless to say i show up at like 2 every day haha
last week i had to be there early one morning though
i wanted to beat someone when that damn alarm clock went off
its definitely an evil little thing

My mother is a lot worse than any alarm clock. She happens to wake me up (with a scream) every morning for no reason usually, exept to tell me she's running out of time and she needs me to be up (for some reason).

......what a psycho bitch.  :crazy:

yeah the dreaded Mother is certainly worse - usually awakens the poor unsuspecting child about 10 minutes before their alarm is supposed to go off.

When I don't use an alarm clock I sleep like ten hours, then I feel like crap all day.

I don't adjust to it either, I'll do it every fucking day for months on end.

I wake up pretty early on my own every morning... I've been getting better at staying asleep, but going to bed at like 2 and waking up 7 or 8 is normal to me.. Sometimes I really hate it, that's why I'm working on just going back to sleep if i wake up too early. My body always feels like it has to do somethin and lying asleep is too much a waste of time...

I forget the enzyme name but,
scientists are working on testing / reproducing the enzyme that inhibits the 'sleep' enzyme so that you wont get tired. They repot that one could be awake for 48 hours with no ill effects, get an 8 hour sleep and do it again.

doesnt sound healthy, but what is?

Somebody once told me I had a warped sense of time. I replied that they had a warped sense called time. Time as itself, is not a real thing. It is simply another way of describing space or space-time. Living your life by time is putting limits on the soul. Go to sleep when you are tired! Wake up when you are relieved. Every other living organism on the planet follows this type of routine. Time in the conventional sense is far from useless, but it causes as many problems, as it fixes. Think about the world before watches and clocks. The only way to tell time was through a sundial, and those weren't exactly something you could carry around with you. Instead of relying on a watch, you would become quite used the earth's natural clock. You would be able to have a general idea of what point you were at in relation to dawn or dusk. Time is a very useful tool, but if you live your life by it, it will pass you by much to fast. Instead we should strive to approach life as it is, not as it has or will be.

I could not agree with you more, Remy!
The imposition of time clocks on society is pretty interesting to me.
Why did we decide to break from the natural rhythems of life and instead, form the body of our days around the essentially imaginary skeleton of "time" as dictated by a tiny device?
Of course, when clocks were popularized we knew next to nothing about the phenomenon of time, so they just seemed like a good idea... at the time...

sleep routine is one of the things i can never agree with other folks on.
recently, i live at night, because i can't study during the day. there's just too much distraction. tonight, i woke up, went to a concert and now, at 1 am, i'm metabolizing the beer and getting ready to study some more. my friend keeps on telling me not to do it, about soul being connected to the rhythm of nature and stuff. i'm sure he's right, but.
anyway, getting up in the evening is much more pleasant than in the morning for me. morning alarm clocks are killing me. every morning, i watch my sister wake up after 5 hrs of sleep or so. what a terrible sight.
the remark about natural disasters + predator attacks is perfect.

oh, and the snooze button.. if i do have to wake up in the morning, i must have the alarm set to 2 hrs before i have to get up. i'm only able to wake up slowly.

i dont' have an alarm clock, for that reason. my cd player is set to a nice classical music station, and really quiet, so it dosen't bother me when it gose off.
