Well my parents have a sense of respect for my privacy, so I don't have to worry about them going to my place of residence when I'm not home.  Also, you don't have to be a dick about it, just don't let her in the basement, not into the house.  But if it came down to it, I would kick my mom out of my house if she was really fucking nosey.

yea but you probably don't rent from your mother, he does.  It isn't really his house, it's her house, she's just nice enough to let him live there.

if he's completely paying for everything though, it's no longer her being "nice enough" to let him stay.  it's a business transaction.  granted, it's a business transaction with family.  but it's not like it's complete charity between family.

i think it would be a legit approach for him to look up dissenting info on the gas  water heater and see if he can try to convince her he doesn't want/need a new heater.  he certainly doesn't need to be a dick about it.  but if he can convince her it's unnecessary, well that would save him a shitload of trouble.

my mother knows what i do, and if she where not comfortable with it, i wouldn't do it in her home.

mute point since i do not live with her, but the principle is still there.

i enjoy not having to hide much of my identity or interests from my family.

that's very, very dependent on how understanding one's parents are though.  there are a LOT of grossly misinformed people out there who consider growing mj or mushies to be the scummiest of the scum.  and sadly enough, no amount of education you try to lend them will change their minds.  so for some people, that level of honesty with one's parents simply is not an option. 

i am, of course, in no way condoning growing while still living with one's 'rents btw.  just referring to the general level of honesty that can be upheld with one's parents in their own adult lives.

This is the reason that I can never move back in with my folks or live under their roof (a home that they own and so have the right to tell me anything in it.) You can't be your own man that way no matter how old you are. I just signed a lease that is going to kill me right now that I ain't working anymore but better than moving back in with the folks.

Try and move your secret projects and dismantle the operation until after the water heater is replaced and save any future projects for when your in a place that is safe for the length of time needed to complete said projects.
