I solved the online test and came out Idealist (NF). I agree to a certain degree but current mood sometime affects the results of these tests.

I wonder if that's an omen?

I'm glad zeronio brought this thread back up because I was meaning to comment on your 'faking' the test.  I am quite familiar with the test and how it is interpreted.  Which section indicates that a person is cheating?

I really like the questions like:

374.  I like to (a) suck things (b) kill things.

What did you answer for the florist question?

And for the record I never played with dolls!  They were action figures, dammit!

There are many questions used throughout the test which attempt to determine the same thing. They are querying for the same result (attitudes or preferences towards certain behaviors) but using different words and maybe a variance in the way the question is structured. This is one of the reasons for there being so many questions. If the answers given do not coincide it is an indication that the test subject is lying.

What I did is simply set my mind that I am a certain type of person and role play throughout the test. I answer the questions totally in character with total honesty for the character, for the duration I 'become' someone else. It is really a type of acting and works quite well for me. If I were to attempt to think about all the questions as myself and lie to portray a certain attitude I would have to remember all my previous answers as I went through the test and try to not contradict them as I encountered new questions.

It's been at least 13 years since I last took the test or a pre-employment test based on it. I really don't remember the questions. It did help that my mother is a psychologist (she holds a Ph.D.) and that I was a psychology major myself (more interested in physiological psychology or psycho-biology than clinical psychology). Also, growing up I was a nerd who was placed in all the advanced programs and became the subject of bullying by the 'normal' kids (and witnessed it happening to my peers). I developed a defense mechanism of being a 'social chameleon' as well as becoming the class clown. I became one of the best friends of the toughest kids in each school I went to - social problem solved. The 'social chameleon' concept is very closely related to how I handle personality tests.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

I don't know where you found your info. I have given and hand-scored over a thousand MBTI's as a grad assistant and as a psychotherapist; I have the MBTI manual as well as Isabel Briggs Myers' 'Gifts Differing,' and Kiersey's and Bates' 'Please Understand Me,' and there is no definitive reference to the Psi functions anywhere. You are correct according to the available published studies that INFJ's are the rarest, followed by INTP's (my Lady and myself). There have been attenuated forms of personality tests on the net that draw upon the MBTI, but the MBTI proper, at 126 questions, is copyrighted and available only to licensed or certified clinicians. I've heard of some 10 question inventory, but whatever that is, it's not the MBTI.

The Psi functions are not necessarily an aspect of the Intuitive component, and definately not an object of MBTI research. During grad work, my advisor Jake Goering (at the time, the only Zurich-trained Jungian in Maryland) attempted to correlate the 16 types with the 12 astrological signs, but the project was never completed (1983, University of Maryland). My job was to test, score and collate data. As an INTP, I have had "ring-like-a-bell-in-the-head" telepathy on several occasions - usually under the influence of LSD. I have also had precognitive dreams since adolescence. My mother had clairvoyant dreams at times, and she was probably an ESFP. Just my $.02.
