Ronco Food Dehydrator (heating element)
    #1135540 -

Sup people, Could anyone tell me how to disconnect the heating element in the Ronco food dehydrator. It sounds like it could be simple but, you never know.

Thanks

No I can't but I wonder why you want too? Frank loves dehydrators.... they work way fast and if you rotate the shelving (provide you have enough shelves) they don't get all that hot....

I think he wants to take out the heating element so during drying his shrooms don't lose potency. Heat breaks down the active chemicals (psilocin and psilocybin). If you dry with heat, chances are, your shrooms are gonna be weak.

Not true in my experience. Frank uses a dehydrator and it works awesome. I don't think it's possible to really tell the difference if there really is one. Frank is carefull to move things around and keep the top vent deallys good and open. They don't get real hot since the whole point to dehydration is to remove water without damaging the nutrative content of whatever your drying....

Exactly! I also thought heat would be a bad idea. To my knowledge the Ronco doesnt have a thermostat. I've read that It gets pretty hot, maybe around 160 F.
Not sure tho. I've also read that dehydrating at 95 F is ok tho.

upupup, That may be true in your case but some dehydrators put off a good amount of heat. Perhaps the fact that you leave the vents open and rotate alot keeps them from getting too hot. I'm not exactly sure at what temperature the psilocin and psilocybin are destroyed. All I know is that heat isn't a good thing either way. I left some shrooms in my car last summer when it was like 100 degrees ouside. I ate them later that night with a friend and they didn't do shit. I assumed it was the heat based on the fact that when I went home and got more, we ate them and well... put it this way... the walls were breathing, and Dextor's Labratory (cartoon) seemed way too interesting.

It really depends on how much your trying to dry eh?

Like I said earlier, if it's one of those units with like 3 trays I might try to get a bit more space between your element and your drying subjects. Franks has like 8 trays and he usually just work with the top ones.....cracker dry.....damn quick too.....

Thanks! You made your point. So up to 110 degrees F is ok. I wish I knew exactly what the max temp was on this dehydrator.

If you aren't sure maybe you should just try a different drying method. Go look in the FAQ. Theres some good ones there. Its better than wasting a flush of shrooms.

I went to the Ronco site and guess what? Frank has the exact same dehydrator. I couldn't find anything on thier site about temps though so I called customer service, they had nothing to tell me either but they are looking into it and are going to email me with an answer if they find one......I will post answer if I get it.....

I've recently been using quart jars with damprid and a sock to hold them. This works great with your average size shroom. Since I've been casing straw and composted cow manure I have been getting Huge monster shrooms. Weighing 30 to 50g and 11" long. Monster PR and EQ's.

I fan dry first for at least a day. If their fatasses I cut the stems in half. I really hate doing that.

How long do you leave them on for, and how often do you rotate? Im on my first grow and was planning on using dessicant, but ive got a dehydrator with like 10trays, and doesnt give off hardly any heat...seems more convenient.
