Personalism?
    #11325167 - 10/26/09 03:11 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I just had a warning for a personalism, im not disputing it at all, i well deserved it & its nice to know there is an active mod here...

I just wanted to clarify what distinguishes a personalism?

Isn't saying someones beleifs are stupid, just as much a personalism as saying they themselves are stupid?

And its okay for one person to call a certain group of beleifs stupid, but when you challenge that persons beleifs, its suddenly offensive?

Whats the difference?

:peace:

EDIT: the point of this post is NOT to say that posts should not be mocked or challenged (there are other forums obviously)
the point is that the ones who challenge beleifs should be willing to be challenged themselves in the same manner, otherwise its pointless making challenging threads in the first place

i think we should allow all personalisms

we will all be better off for it

was it the post that had to do with someone wrestling with their beliefs?

Yes but thats irrelevant...

Perhaps when singling particular people out then it becomes personal

I just find it funny that its okay to say an entire group of people are stupid, but call a particular one person stupid & suddenly its wrong...

Even the 'debunkers' could agree with that...

I guess its like any human being can admit humanity as a whole is ignorant, but they cant admit that they themselves are ignorant!

:rofl2:

you're so bad.

this "rule" reminds me of my old boss. he would let certain people get away with being complete assholes, but when someone else said something a little bit out of line.. slap!

but yeah it definitely is favoritism (mixed in with a bit of high school drama).

It is hypocritical to allow me to be mocked indirectly by being a member of a certain group, yet get all upset about something less offensive.

No. They're entirely different. A person and an idea are too very separate things.

he told someone they wrestle with their beliefs.

do you think that constitutes a warning?

keep in mind he's been here since 04'.

someone isn't playing by the rules

a person is nothing more than an idea
if you clear your mind of every single idea, thought, beleif, all imagnation swept aside
there is no 'person' left to speak of
theres a body, but not a 'personal' person

I fully deserved the warning (according to the forum rules)

However i do think its ridiculous that some can galvant around the forum making post after post after post after post, berating other peoples beleifs, but when that persons beleifs are challeneged, suddenly its not okay...

If you are willing to challenge peoples beleifs then your beleifs should be able to withstand a similar challenge...

The rules state long time forum regulars generally get more leniency than noobs.
There are regulars in this forum who've been here less time than you but get away with much more blatant personalisms than the one you used (and many a times).
Do you still think yours was deserved?

Nothing like exposure

Im not too concerned about it, if i get banned then ill go do something else

Ive had a good run...

Its just hilarious how certain people can masquerade as 'intelligent' yet be completely ignorant to their own true nature

They make threads about the same thing over & over, dont even discuss the subject matter in the thread, then make another thread in the same vein, again & again it repeats...

What use in making the thread if they are not willing to honestly discuss the matter the first time round?

I noticed this trend myself. I got a warning, too. I thought that was pretty lame with what goes on around here.

Some mods are more zealous than others. I wish there was some consistency.

I figured it out.

We need a (strict) believer as a mod to tame the debunkers.

:awesome:

I thought they wanted all the spirituality out of here. Except for the anti-spirituality, I guess.

We need someone who doesnt beleive in anything at all!

Someone completely neutral

I think vertias is the best mod, shes probably  just too busy most of the time to be surfing round here looking for personalisms
Shit, was that a personalism!?

We need a neutral neutered net nerd whose gonna be around here more often....

Theres nothing more spiritual than an anti spirtualist

It just goes to show, if spirituality is so non-existent & false, then why does it need debunking every day?
Would someone waste their time talking about something that doesnt exist to them?
