casing layer sprouted a seedling.
    #11307015 -

So i cased two turkey sized roaster trays 3 days ago using kinda my own casing recipe not far from the 50/50+ . I went to go check them today and there was a seedling in one of the trays... wut to do with this seedling? idk wut kind of seed it is, all i can say is it must have come from the peat i used i suppose. nothing else i used in my casing should have seeds in it....

note: the casing material i used was pasteurized at 180 for 2 hrs then allowed to completely cool before casing. should these temps not have destroyed that seed?

also i've used spent cakes before and added them with some bulk sub to some houseplants and gotten them to fruit. do u guys think that this seedling/my mushies will have a symbiotic relationship, making it better for both or is that seedling gonna zap needed nutrients from the sub? subs 3 in deep w 1/4 casing for anyone wondering.

i've had small, grass-looking seedlings sprout from a freshly pasteurized casing layer a couple times actually. as far as i can tell its no big deal

would u like to c a pic?

the seedling is pretty nasty and yellow cuz its been in the dark. but my casings should be about ready in another 3-4 days. i notice that w the lime in the casing it takes it a lil while longer to colonize....

lots of seedlings all look alike and deciding wut kind of plant it is will be difficult until around abouts the 3rd flush i'm guessing. i meddle with growing herb too, i've got like 6 plants into their 3rd week of veg and i have lots of seeds around the house. but the odds of one of them making it into that casing are pretty much zero. i could only hope to be so lucky to have a weed plant sprout up w some shrooms.

gt's from lc, or maybe a g2g, can't remember. spawn was wbs.

this is the best pic i could get... i have a nice camera with a great macro setting but the sprout is REALLY small and hard to make the camera focus on just that little part.

now that i think more i think it would b quite impossible for a seedling to sprout in only 3 days and get big like that. i could have been in my bulk sub.... i did use cpoo hand picked from the field for it. and those gt's colonize my subs so quickly. but my sub was pasteurized and kept sealed for at least 2 weeks before i spawned this batch to it so i'm a bit puzzled.

mushrooms grow in the grass don't they?

I don't see how a seed sprouting would be any problem, just pick it out if your worried.

I think it would be interesting to use thin sod layer as a top in a tray grow.

:drooling:

Sprouts in your tub aren't too much of a problem. I've had it happen a few times before. Sometimes seeds survive pasteurization.
