MAC not detecting Nikon Coolpix L18 camera. WANT TO POST GOOD PICS. please help!!

So i have this digital camera that I'm trying to begin using.
I want to transfer pictures onto my mac, but when I plug it in
a) the software isn't automaically starting up
b) it doesn't appear in the view finder

these lead me to believe my computer isn't detecting my camera?
faulty chord?
any ideas?

in the booklet it says to have the camera off when connecting it to the mac.
.the camera does turn on and off. You mean while it's plugged in?

Plug it in, turn it on like you are going to review photos that you have taken. It should detect the camera and do whatever it's supposed to do.

At least that's how it is for every single camera I've ever tried.

You aren't going to break anything. So give it a shot.

oh yeahhh, just tried to turn it on while pugging it in and iphoto opened...success
