How long does it take someone to actually learn to snowboard? Such as, how long before you can actually control how you land; going off jumps, and such.

UUUGH, i can't fucking wait until the mtns here open up for the season. i've been able to make it on opening day at Killington every year for the last 10 years, and i hope to do it again this year. and, i got a new ride this year, and a "new" old ride too. burton custom 158 (brand new, but 2007 model) burton supermodel 168 (used, but new to me, i used to have one of these back in the late 90's but some cunt stole it on me). this season should rock.

This is only my second year... and its not that hard to learn. You fall lots at the start, but after a while you learn to carve. By the end of the year i was hitting jumps and shit. I was actually sad to see the snow melt
Its soooo much fun though!! You gotta start somewhere, why not start this year...

if you can skateboard, you can snowboard. same with surfing pretty much. i taught my lil sister how to snowboard, and she picked it up really quick too. and the only experience she had prior was surfing.
at first, it's really hard. you will fall. a lot. but once you get a few runs under your belt, and grasp the balance/carve concept you can almost hear something click...and then it's all downhill from there.
my favorite? the glades at Mt Snow after some dank powder has fallen. tree riding is the best, plus you're in the middle of the woods so you can stop wherever and spark one up. shit now i'm getting excited. it's getting colder here each day, so with any luck i'll be riding by the middle of November.

+Outlook - LOVE IT!! I am so jealous that you have snow already. We got a few inches this week, but it's almost melted already... Oh well, I don't really enjoy riding/skiing around here anyway. Can't wait until Feb, when I take my annual trip out west. It will probably be CO again this year!

I learned by just renting a board in Whistler when I was there about a decade ago, and teaching myself. First couple of times down, I probably fell 100 times. By the end of the day, I was able to finish a whole run without falling. Probably took a good dozen days or so before I was able to land a jump, and I still can't do any tricks.

I have a similar situation. There are plenty of places to ride around here, but the hills are all pretty small and I get bored after a few hours. They also have man-made snow everywhere, which sometimes makes it feel like downhill iceskating. I have vacationed in the Rockies just about every year since I was 12, so I guess I'm just too spoiled to enjoy MN skiing...
Have fun man!!
