If I s-l-o-w-l-y bring her up to 15 psi over about 20 mins, all is good.


I have a presto 21Qt. it takes that long on it's own I've ever lost one jar. It was a LC the bottom came off perfectly weird.

Your jars are actually more prone to crack by depressurizing too quickly. Let it lose pressure on its own.

This is exactly why I PC my jars before I go to bed... Then let them cool in the PC overnight... I don't even bother opening up the PC until I'm ready to knock up the jars.

^^^ yeah. and over time any minor stress will take its toll, weaken the glass, and cause it to possibly break eventually. i usually vent some pressure right after PC time is done. there is no need to do this i realize. especially since i had to wait at least 12 hrs before i had the time for inoculation anyways.

thanks for the cautionary tale.

mason jar glass is thick, i can imagine getting cut really bad.

i will be more careful in the future. i cant afford stitches, let alone afford the pain and inconvenience of healing from a nasty laceration.

plus the whole.... oh geezeus, how do i explain this one thing?...
