Safety Reminder

I had a 1L jar of WBS come apart in my hand today, fresh out of the PC!



It was my own stupidity for not checking the jars. Something I normally do but this time my mind was pre-occupied.  :cuckoo:

Luckily I only received a small cut on one finger and a mess of WBS. :ashamed: Could have been worse! 

The moral of the story....Keep your mind on the task at hand and check the damn jars before and after they're done sterilizing!

I'm always careful to make sure the jars don't rattle so it was probably a weak spot in the jar itself.

Couple of my jars have air bubbles in the glass, its only a matter of time before they buckle.

I broke a gallon sized glass mason jar today from excessive heat to cool down D:

last year i was transporting a quart jar and i dropped it and attempted to grab it on the way down..well i grabbed it just as it hit the kitchen floor and smashed. i freaked out and started running towards the bathroom for a towel without realizing that my finger had been slashed and was squirting blood all over my apartment. i couldnt feel anything because it sliced through the nerves in the finger.
that bad boy needed stitches. lame.

Put a cloth on the bottom of PC, those u use to dry dishes and glasses after washing, it will reduce the risk of breaking your jars. Just make sure u put enough water, otherwise it will burn, trust me hehehe :facepalm:

hmmm i used to have a huge issue with my mason jars breaking....... im not sure why.. i've tried several sizes (with top ends being too cramped for me to remove the cakes and i would have to break it to get it out). But i only use pint mason jars now..... too bad there is an issue with mold and bacteria that seep into them..... i think im not sealing them properly....im ranting..

I once cut my thumb over the knuckle, exposing bone. I had just cut a pipe in half and was reaming it out when it slipped and gashed it open. Needed stitches probably, but instead wrapped it up, held it straight for over a week with the aid of a very large pot stem.

Haha, I know. Me and my buddy were headed somewhere for the weekend, right after I had done it. I kept cursing very loudly when I accidentally bent my thumb while trying to drive so he pulled that baby out, cleaned it off and fixed my finger up on the highway. And it smelt good to boot. :lol:

For me, jars crack if I bring the PC temperature up too fast.  When I first started out, I was always in a rush and would just bolt down the lid and turn the gas up to full straight away.  Jars would crack.

If I s-l-o-w-l-y bring her up to 15 psi over about 20 mins, all is good.
