How long does San Pedro keep in the fridge?

Hey, so in a theoretical world if one was to prepare San Pedro dried cuttings using this method (from dried cuttings) - http://www.erowid.org/plants/cacti/cacti_preparation5.shtml - boiling it into a tea, then how long would that tea keep in the fridge.
For example, theoretically, if someone were to make a batch tomorrow, would it keep until the next weekend?
Or could one take a portion and freeze it for that next weekend or something?
Or would it go off and/or lose it's potency to make it not worth it during that week+ period?
Cheers!

If its refrigerated it should make it to the weekend. Although the tea already taste like its been sitting out for years

sorry mate i have no idea how long it keeps in the fridge..
but i wanted to ask a question about san pedro is a 12'',3'' cutting of san pedro the equivalent to once hit of decent acid? more, less? ive only had experience with LSD and i was curious to trying san pedro ''equivalent'' as in trip intensity btw

It doesn't really work like that. X amount of cactus doesn't equal Y amount of LSD. The potency ranges for cactus and LSD tabs. My experience with a 12" clipping is that it got me into the threshold dose range. Definitely tripping, but no strong visuals.

1. Cut cactus horizontally to get little star looking cacti pieces.
2. Add water and cacti pieces into the blender, and blend.
3. Let it sit on stove and simmer for about 5 hours.
4. Strain the remaining cactus material and solution through any cotton t-shirt.
Drink up
It tasted soo bad that after some intense chugs of the tea, we made tea jello shots.

As someone already posted, that's like comparing apples to oranges. 12 inches can be a good dose, but for me, a little bit more goes a long way. I think you're right around the point where you'll definitely have some visuals but mostly just the mescaline feeling: some euphoria and interesting thoughts. If you're using common pedro of that thickness and want a solid trip, try to go with 15-18 inches, in my opinion. Just remember though, that's entirely anecdotal: cacti grown under different conditions yield different potency, so yours could be stronger or weaker.

It would last till next weekend, but why would you do that? If you're worried about it lasting, just wait to prepare it. You're not doing any kind of extraction, so I would prep it later rather than sooner.
Freezing it breaks down the cell walls, which helps when trying to avoid a foamy mess when making a tea. I'm not sure if that would effect the amount of time before it spoils though.

Ah it's more that, in a theoretical sense, one might be planning on brewing up a tea tomorrow with some friends, but there might be some more friends who want to partake the following weekend. One wonders if one can save the time and cook up both batches this weekend and so save having to do another sesh the next weekend.

I'm not sure if anyone will read this in time but in case they do...
In a theoretical world, if one were to have taken 90g of dried torch, broken them up in ones hands and put them in a blender with about the same amount of water as they took up in a cup. And then after blended the mixture until a bubbly light paste, then put said paste in a pan and boiled it. And then after added water, what consistency would the SP have? B/C from the pictoral guide on Erowid, the mixture seemed gloopy and bubbly and thick for most of the time of the boiling.
However, if one was, theoretically, to follow this method with dried cactus, would this still be the case or would, b/c it is dried and therefore without water, the consistency be different?
As at the moment, if one was, say 3 hours into the boiling, one might have found that the water kept running out and one had to add more water twice already - around 12 oz at a time, in order to keep having something there to boil (as the guide said boil for many hours).
One is concerned that one will end up with evaporating away all the water and being left with useless gloop. Or is one doing things exactly how one should and should just keep adding water and roll with it and keep going?

3 hours! You are a very patient person.....
If you want to go for a longer time period, add more water and lower the temp a bit.
Out of curriousity how long would someone theoretically plan on cooking it?
I usually go 1hour 1 hour and a half tops, with a second 30 min run.......... I am incredibly impatient.
After straining and into the reduction phase..... keep an eye on it, dont let it boil hard once the volume gets low.... try to aim for a good balance between volume and viscosity..... a thinner drink with a bit more volume is IMO easier to swallow that a thicker but less voluminous portion.
Well, While we are talking about my horrid laziness.... I dont actually strain either.... I turn off the heat and let the crap settle out, then slowly pour off the "clear" layer into a seperate pan, add more water to the first, stir, boil again for a short time while starting to reduce the first portion.....
While, I do believe I lose some potency, the resulting beverage is very clean , clear and delicious! No gritty chunks or snotty like texture.

Hehe the Erowid prep post mentioned boiling for 12hours for max potency, I know this was for the wet cactii, hence this post - one wanted to know if this 12 hours was only for the wet stuff, and for the dried stuff the time frame is much reduced b/c the water is already taken out. It seems, from your post, that it's ok to keep adding water as long as one doesn't boil it all away!
Theoretically, one is planning on boiling for 6 hours, say until one's friends came over, and hopes that might give a good hedging one's bet timeframe.
Aye the straining process sounds weird - esp as one's is so watery at the moment, but there you go. It smells really bad, one has some miracle berry extract to help with the taste!

Wow..... lol, your friends better appreciate this.
Yeah, the first part of boiling is to get the goodies from the cacti into the water.
So, it wont really thicken up until after straining and starting to reduce to a consumable amount.
I havent cooked fresh before, BUT I have heard it is a lot easier to strain out with a tee-shirt that the dried powder is.

Yeah since, theoretically, it's still so watery at the moment, probably because being that it started off dried it doesn't have all the skin and pulp and that still, one'd imagine when one strains it it'll just be a big gloopy goo, which is going to be weird!
One hopes one'll be able to strain out the water from the gloop, one doesn't really fancy having to drink the goop, one supposes one will have to decide that depending on how much liquid one can squeeze out.

One could mix it with flour to make an active dough.
Please keep in mind though, this is not the right forum for this discussion, this falls more under extraction/preperation which would go better int the Other drug Discussion or Chemistry forum.

nature_goodies said: when you boil the cacti down...(reduce water) is there a chance that the cacti will burn? i mean like reducing it for on small shot in a big pot...?
Yes.
Make sure to strain before reducing..... the thinner the liquid, Dont want chunks of cacti, the easier to reduce without scorching.
I have accidently boiled a small pot close to dry ( danged electric stove, arrrggghhhh ) the resulting dose, which I ate anyway was ineffective, felt a bit of lazy head high, but NO trip.
Keep temps low when reducing, have to watch and lower them as the liquid level gets lower......
Less liquid = Needs less heat to boil.
Aim for a "consumable amount" maybe a cup or 2 at most..... depending on how much starting material you had.
AS to a small shot in a big pot..... I think your chance of burning goes up..... the pot will have lots of heated surface area......... and so the liquid will burn very fast.
BUTTTTTT If you are very attentive and careful, you could still do it...... towards the end, you will have your fire BARELY ON.......
Getting it down to a shot( like 2oz ) is almost going to require an oven unless you have practiced a lot. And then.... the shot is probably going to be thick like an esspresso. Yuck.
I would rather drink a cup of thinner liquid than a shot of thicker. YMMV

nature_goodies said: well tnx man that help.. do u think i would manage to reduce a piece of 60 cm` of p.torch to like one cup...150 ml sort of...? and if i do you suggest to use smaller pot in the end right?
p.s- when i cook the cacti at some point i will throw the chunks... now how can i tell if i fully extracted the mescaline out of them.. i mean lets say i dont throw em and i anew the proccese, mescaline propbaly would still come out of them, that means i didnt fully used the cacti right?
How big of a pot are we talking? if it is one of those spaghetti noodle pots...... It will work fine.....
If you are wanting to make sure , switch it to a smaller pot after straining.
Here is how you can find out if there is any appreciable amount left...... First hand.
Do your run...... save the scraps. plastic baggies in a cooler until you get somewhere to freeze them.
Drink up. Enjoy.
Then about a week later, do a short run on the leftovers..... maybe an hour or so.... the freezing and previous processing should have it about as broken down as it will get.... toss some lemon juice in to help just in case.......
Drink that.
My guess is you will have very minimal effects..... maybe a bit of happy mood and energy....... not tripping by any means.
BUTTTTT I think, if you are planning to become a cactus tea drinker..... And from all the time and effort you are putting into this, I think you are.
You should do this firsthand just so you can feel comfortable about it. Nagging doubts suck.
Cactus tea is an imperfect science..... I mean, you will never know if you got EVERY drop of mescaline out of it. A lot of times there is a tradeoff no matter what.
Each cactus has fairly substantial differences in alkaloid content. For one cactus 12" will do it, on another 24" might not be enough.
Actually, you might want to check out FrenchMachines fresh tek. There is a difference between tea, I will write that up to the variety of other alkaloids besides mescaline that are in the cactus.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11086411#11086411
My first cactus experience was raw, blended with some lemon juice. By the spoonful baby!
