Quick tincture safety question.

I have a few grams of stems I'm attempting to extract some hash from.  I just broke em up and put them in a mason jar with some denatured alcohol, I just want to know if it's okay to put the lid on and seal it until I'm ready  to evap it.  It won't release any gases, build up, and explode on me overnight, will it?

Awesome.  Would it be fruitful for me to just keep adding stems and whatnot to it over the course of a few months or will it just degrade and get ruined?  I assumed the alcohol would act as a preservative or something but I'm far from a chemist.  :tongue2:

If you wish to, there would be no harm.

The alcohol will prevent anything from decaying/growing.

And honestly after ~12-48hrs, all the goodies will be in the alcohol, so the stems can be filtered out, which i would highly advise.

Plant matter doesn't hold up well when soaked in alcohol for weeks or longer.

Nothing worse than trying to filter mush/goo/crap, plus the alcohol will start to pull out unwanted waxes/oils/fats.

Keep it somewhere dark. Two things degrade THC: light and air. Air you don't have to worry about in a liquid. Light you do.

Wow that worked out better than my first batch a while ago.  I just made a lightbulb vape and smoked a nice gooey glob of it.  I left it soak for like 4 days this time instead of only about 15 hours...that's prolly why!

Yeah did your shit taste bitter or weird? (some?) Denatured alcohol has a bittering agent in it that may not evaporate.

Use ethanol or iso and don't leave it too long.  24 hours should be enough to get the cannabinoid's without getting to much unwanted plant matter.

I've always been interested in isomerisation.  Technically you can convert shit weed mexican bush or a load of stem cannabinoids into the more potent THC.  Its just a case of adding an acid and refluxing the solvent.

Never tried it though or heard of anyone that has.

If a dealer figured it out they could make a lot of money turning shwag oil into super potent oil.  Its possible even hemp could be turned into a potent smokable oil.
