I have a question about buying a used ps2

I have a friend who is planning on buying a used playstation2.She has heard the first ps2's they came out with, had something wrong with them.Is there any way she can tell if shes getting a newer one?

the newer model (very new, they have only been around for a few months) have a sensor for a remote built in, a quieter cooling fan, prog. scan DVD, and comes w/ a network adaptor. However, I have the first model and I must say there is NOTHING wrong with it.

my friends ps2 (the one he got around the time when it first came out) stopped playing his dvds, he got really pissed, has anyone else had this problem?

I got mine the day they were realeased and I noticed that it wouldn't play some DVDs until I bought the remote control, it comes with a disc that has drivers on it that you put onto a memory card and that enables it to play DVDs more consistantly.

The first PS2's are model # SCPH-30001, pass on those because the lasers give out too quickly. I work part time in a pawn shop and we get a lot of PS2s, the only PS2s that ever gave us problems was the 30001s, we only take the newer models. Look for SCPH-35001 or higher, newer models with no problems I've ever seen. Here's a picture of the PS2 model plate;

I to got one the day they were released. It was fine for a while and then it quit playing certain dvds. Then all dvds, then certain games, then all games.

Finally, I called sony. they said it would be around $140 to fix it.

*pff* *fuck that*

So I hung up with them and started to take it apart myself. Turns out one of the gears on the inside must have been led astray by some unknown force so when I cleaned it and aligned it back up it's been working fine every since.

(Anyone who is going to try and clean and/or take apart there system should consult a manual if they aren't comfortable around electronics.)

I just got rid of my PS2. It was an original model, and it fuckkkked up for a long time.
Disc Read Errors.. I know some people who have had no problem yet with theirs, but unfortunately, there is ALOT of people who have. DVD games won't work, DVD movies won't work, CD-ROM games don't work.

It's different for everyone, but the point is they should all work! And Sony's doing nothing at all about it. Most think it's due to dust, try to keep it as dust free as possible (make some kind of ghetto filter over the fan in the back, like tape some kleenex over it, alotta dust gets in there)

If it does fuck up, bring it to Electronics Boutique, and trade it in for a nice payment on an Xbox.
