PS2 Modding

Yeah, I posted this in Science and Technology but haven't really gotten a reply so I figured I would post here..
I'm getting some money soon and have decided to Mod my PS2 - to play my backup copies of games that got scratched/fucked up..
Has anyone here modded their PS2 or know someone that has? I've looked at a bunch of chips and whatnot but I'm still not sure what to get...
I've googled and read but I am trying to figure out wich ones REALLY work well..
SOO, what is the easiest/cheapest way to mod your PS2?
Thanks

Don't know a thing about it, but I'd get really pissed when XBox live users played Halo2 with mods. Damn them and their quest for high ranks!

If you had the old one, you could've done the exploit. It lets you have and run HDLOADER off of your memory card everytime you insert a playstation one game of your choice...which of course you would have to speficy in the boot.cnf and elf files.

Flip Top Cover
This is how I modded my old ps2......Works like a charm. And probably a hell of a lot easier than installing a chip.

http://www.ps2hd.com/ - for memory card exploit, you need a ps2 network adapter, hard drive, a ps1 game (any), and the old big playstation
and
http://www.xbox-scene.com/ - for everything xbox. This site kicks ass chip mods, soft mods, extensive tutorials, it has everything you need.
It should be noted that most ps2 chips need to be soldered while xbox has solderless solutions. Software setup on the xbox can be dificult for some people I recommend a installer disk like Slayers (probably a newer one out by now)

As far as I know there is no way to use xbox live on a modded xbox with burned games or games off the hard drive. They will ban your xbox (not your live account just your xbox) if they detect a modified bios or a number of other things. People that get banned usually buy a second unmodified xbox for live since you need the original game anyway to play.
Check out the forums though I don't use xbox live.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the standard big PS2s... I didn't even know they made PS2s with a top like that.
Oh well.
