I use Comcast. When I want to play online. I have to unplug the power adaptor and all the ethernet cables from the modem. Let it sit for a few minutes to get it to do a "hard reset" Then hook up the modem to the ps2. Hope this helps.

Just get a 4 port router for probably 50 bucks and plug yer puter and ps2 in it. Works for my friend.

Edit:

I didnt read it all...
If its a floor away just pull a 50-100ft cable up a wall with string and a washer. If you have a straight shot in the heating shit go thru there.
