This mushroom can be grown on both sterile and nonsterile substrates. Agars PDA and MEA are suggested. 72-78 degrees F. Light is not needed, but low filtered sunlight did slightly increase growth rate. High level or direct sunlight will kill or inhibit growth.
Sterile fruiting substrates Oatmeal or Sawdust (60% Oak sawdust) and barley (40%). The culture takes over Oatmeal at a faster rate. Can produce mushrooms in 40 days. Drop to 62-66 degrees F for pins. When 1/2 inch long, raise to 75-80 degrees F, and filtered sunlight is good for full mushroom development. They can be grown nonsterile outside on Oak logs.
