Would this be a sufficient ethnobotanical grow light??
    #11110723 -

Would this work as a grow light??..if i modified it a little..

heres the specs:

Quote:
The Halogen Quartz Portable Light features quartz lights that are 33% brighter than incandescent bulbs.  Each bulb cage has an instant On/Off switch, and an 8 ft grounded cord and plug.  This product features 1 light and is 500 watts.

I know its not HPS but its at least 500watts:shrug:

Whats the difference between High Pressure Sodium and Halogen Quartz?

im basically trying to find a 400+wat HPS light that has s regular cord that i can plug in.

any help would be appreciated.

I don't think that would be a suitable grow light. The spectrum they put out is more suited for the human eye and not plant growth, you would be better off going with CFL's or fluorescent tubes until you can find a HPS set up.

The differences in the two is one was designed for growing while the other was for light. Here are the Wiki links for High Pressure Sodium and Halogen Quartz, that should give you a good idea on the two.

probaly not...

whilst its a reasonable wattage it doesn't have the right light spectrum...

plants prefer a certain spectrum of light that i cant remember off the top of my head..

i have found this light to be a liitle hot aswell..

check out this link - light guide

so are there any grow lights out there that offer the correct growing light spectrum than can be simply plugged into the wall and not have to be completely wired into the electrical system of the establishment??

maybe you guys could offer some good links on wher ei can buy a good simple grow like for around 100$ that dont require any kind of electrical "rigging" i just want to be able to set it up and plug it in.

we are talking a pretty small scale grow here as well.

what about something like this??
http://www.specialty-lights.com/4405.html

do they offer a 1000wat HPS with a regular powercord anywhere at all??

or maybe something like this...

and one of these..

 i know im on the right track, but still a bit confused...

regardless of price... whats the most popular grow light out there right now?

Every HPS or MH ballast that I have seen just plugs into a household wall socket, no need for wiring unless the plug has been cut off. Look on popular auction sites for grow lights and you will see that they come ready to use, plug and grow.

well i actually bought a 500watt HPS and got it all the way home and opened it before i realized it was just the light with a few wires coming out of it to wire it to like the main electrical system of your house or garage or sumthing so i returned it. i dont want to go through any more returns, i would just like to find the best product for an ok price. and im even willing to spend some good money if its really really worth it.

no one has any links or picks for the grow lights they are currently using???

Does a Ballast mean it includes the bulb as well?? or is that sold separately??

does this look close??

I've never bought or seem a kit that comes in pieces, although I am not from where you are so may be different. Not all ballasts come with a bulb, that might have to be bought separately. The ballast in your link is what you are after.

Here is what a standard set up will look like:

A 400watt hps system is not gonna cost u much $...  Five 1000watt systems will increase it a bit though..

I use CFL's and HPS...  Walmart sells these HUGE (200watt)CFL bulbs (3000Lum) they seem to do a good job for veg and clones...

this is just for small scale indoor growing of common ethnobotanical plants. (maybe 1-3 plants at a time)
