Johns Hopkins Students Kills Home Burglar With Samurai Sword

Baltimore, MD (AHN) - An undergraduate student at Johns Hopkins used a samurai sword to kill a man who broke into the garage of his off-campus home early Tuesday.

Police are still interviewing the student, who fatally lacerated the upper body of the man who broke into his home. The suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene, also had a nearly severed hand, the Baltimore Sun reported.

A resident in the area called police about a suspicious person, and an off-duty officer, along with university security, responded at about 1:20 a.m. They found the suspected robber suffering from the sword wounds after hearing shouts and screams coming from a neighboring house, according to preliminary police reports.

On Monday, burglars had stolen two laptops and a Sony PlayStation from the student's home, which he shares with three roommates.

The suspected burglar had previous convictions for breaking and entering, and had just been released Saturday from a Baltimore County facility, the Sun reported.

he killed a guy that had a b&e recored not a assualt and battery recored not armed robbery

i think the student deserves to go to jail for a year to teach him its not ok to kill its not ok to kill

I don't.  Dude burgaled the wrong house on the wrong day.  The kid was just still all uptight about the last burglary.  Shit happens when you're a med student (already an emotional wreck) coupled with a repeat event.  :shrug:  I probably would done the same shit too.

i disagree, criminals arnt generally scared of the system, but they should be scared of their victim. although he shouldnt have killed him, a few slashes on his legs will make sure he cant run from crimes anymore. And a year in jail for a student? hah that could potentially ruin his life. Convictions can affect loans, and scholarships; they dont want con's getting helped in education, and i just think it would be fucked up for this kid to lose his education cause some ass broke into his place for the 2nd or 3rd time to clean out more shit and he lost his temper a bit. Or perhaps felt threatened in his own home!

Student had no way of knowing that. For all he knew, the guy could have been armed.

Sure.  It is.  Until you get caught by the cop's infrared cameras that detect the heat signature of your lights. 

Then you're suspected of breaking the law and they'll go through the proper channels to obtain a warrant and search your castle. 

4th amendment provides the LE that 'liberty.'

simple rule of thumb

you dont know the intentions of someone that's breaking into your house,
you have no idea if they're there to take your shit or to take your shit
and kill all the occupants, plain and simple, burglars know there's a
risk when the enter an occupied house, he took the gamble and he lost

IMO, the samurai did what was necessary for his safety to the extent of his knowledge
