pinning under the casing layer and mutants. coincidence? pic
    #11040788 -

b+ 50/50 verm/pmoss ultrasonic humidifier and enough FAE. i noticed something that hadn't happened in my previous grows - underground pinning with very limited surface colonization. when i saw that, i moved it straight out of incu into my fruiting chamber. this first flush isn't exactly what i was hoping for and with a disproportionate amount of mutants.

so my questions: has anyone experienced an increased amount of mutants after having this type of pinning? also, is there any way to correct this and turn this sub-par first flush into something good?

Great pic! :congrats:

I can't really answer your question specifically, but it does look a little dry to me.

well, the casing started out way too wet, so i didnt mist it during incu like i usually do. you are probably right about it being too dry.

It's going to need a dunk between flushes anyway.

pins are supposed to form in the casing thats what its for.  its a microclimate to assist in pin formation.  and its not whats causing mutants, thats just multi-spore luck.  if conditions are favorable than you will continue to get new pins forming.  2nd flush or the late comers are more than likely to be non-mutants as later flushes tend to have less if any mutants.

misting it wouldnt hurt, mushies are 90% water.:stoned:

heh, thanks  . i've been a lurker for my past 4 grows or so, but the information on this site has been amazing.

in my previous grows, the casing layer was colonized and on the surface and pinning. i have never gotten pinning under the surface. i have never gotten mutants either, so i figured it might be connected.
