protien substitutes, (instead of meat)
    #10998680 -

I have fallen in love with them.

My favorite is Tempeh followed my seitan.

A good authentic curry with spiced gluten is heaven for my taste buds.

What do you like?

(I am sure most of you are devote carnivores, and that is cool.)

I've tried cooking with tofu or tempe at my house, and I can't get it to taste good.  It takes a really good vegetarian chef to get some flavor to those things, and even then, it never tastes like real meat.  I've heard that certain mushrooms make good meat substitutes.  I'd like to try those.

I like pasta & eat tofu more then I want to. I am switching to seitan instead of tofu though!

I made seitan for my first time last night! It is really cheap & easy to make seitan at home, and fun! Way cheaper compared to buying tofu, tempeh or pre made seitan. Bulk bags of wheat gluten are on the net for $85 for a 50lb bag!

You can make the seitan mix however you like adding herbs and flavors to the mix before the boil.

Some googling for seitan how-tos should reveal sites with tips on how to get the texture more chicken-like.

Just add a little Baconaiseā„¢. It will perk up the flavor of your tofu, guaranteed!

There is a veg restaurant near me and they make the most delicious Reuben but with tempeh instead of corned beef. It is delicious. It has sauerkraut, asiago cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, avocado, tempeh, and thousand island dressing on rye. I never liked sauerkraut before I had this sandwich.

there is such no thing as a good meat substitute just avoid them.  Fruits, veggies, grains are just fine no need to make something that taste good already taste like total shit by adding a meat substitute

Oysters are an awesome meat substitute.

I've made chopped oyster mushrooms sauteed using a recipe with a little flour in it. It cooked down into crispy pieces that resemble pork bites.

Tempeh is the only one that is really good for you.

Soy should not be ingested without fermentation.

Stick to tempeh and soy sauce; avoid the other forms.

Gluten is bad, mmkay.

Oysters are shellfish though  sort of goes against the idea of "substitution"

Notice how I strategically quote "there is only one good substitution, mushrooms" then I respond to his MUSHROOM statement by saying "Oysters are awesome. Ive made chopped oyster mushrooms"

Not sea oysters... lol...
