Birth of a Galaxy?

I was thinking while looking at the stars in the sky 2nite.....

What if there was a black hole just outside deep space that we couldn't see (of course) that exploded to create another galaxy? I mean a black hole that has sucked in all matter of a galaxy that was going to meganova and create a nebulas proto-galaxy? That would just be cool. If there was one of these black holes out there, we wouldn't know it exists until it went off.

do black-holes explode? do they reach a maximum-capacity of sorts and blow up like that? wow thats fuckin cool I wasn't aware of that :smile:

Apparently we can detect black-holes with lasers because they bend beams of light, so hopefully we'd know if there was one nearby, but hey who knows? Would be quite a spectacle as long as it didn't blow the crap out of our little corner of the galaxy here

It has been postulated by astronomers/physicists that a giant black hole exists in the center of the milky way and all other galaxies and that they created those galaxies. It is also theorized that black holes could be responsible for the creation of the material universe. This seems obvious to me. Black holes are the physical representation of the void which spawned us all.

depends on which angle they point it at.... see past a certain point they simply can't see the light anymore so we're not sure WHAT it does...... but yeah if you shine a light close enough it gets sucked right onto the black-hole

The problem is, we can't tell what happens in the black-hole because light doesn't escape - if something were to go in.. hmm let me start over this is difficult to explain:

OK I'm in a spaceship flying past a black hole. "oh shit i'm getting sucked in. oh no huston i'm fucked! huston watch me from earth check this out this sucks!" so huston sees me spiraling towards the black hole. Now as I get closer to the black hole, the light reflecting off of me allowing huston to get a visual is escaping SLOWER and SLOWER due to the extreme gravitational pull. As I get past a certain point, the light is going slower outwards and slower outwards and bam there's a point where it all stops - past that, it is certainly concievable that all light gets sucked IN, but we can't see that because its blocked by a standing image.

They say that time would stretch out to eternity for you before you actually entered the point of the black hole. Of course you would die long before then as the gravitation forces involved would tear you to pieces. I think i read that it takes something the size of a microchip to pass thru a 2mile wide black hole unharmed.

We can't detect black holes with lasers. It would take years upon years for light to travel that far.

We see black holes by all the stuff swirling right into the center - if its sucked up "everything" around, we indeed wouldn't be able to see it, but since there's nothing happening to it why would it explode?

I still say that would kick ass though :smile: I'm with ya

Because black holes are all shrinking and once shrunk to a point of infinite (or at least immeasurable) density, it would most likely cause it to release a hell of a lot of energy.

I.e. The old expand and collapse theory.
The star runs out of nuclear fuel to burn on, and collapses on its own gravitational pull, it then becomes so dense that light cannot even escape, and continues to shrink until it reaches a point of crucial density.

What we see is half of the Virtual particles getting sucked in the black hole while the twin Virtual particle escapes into space-time.
Virtual Particles are particles, which fill space-time each pair has a positive, and a negative, they seem to bounce off each other and cancel each other throughout space-time.
So what we see is the one escaping particle from the pair, while the other one gets sucked into the black hole.

I don't know about eternity, but a while maybe. I do think that gravity effects time thow. A ship could bounce off the event horizon of one if it knew the exact placement of such a black hole. That could be a cool way to travel through space (and maybe time).

OK maybe not eternity.  It is a proven fact that gravity affects time or at least our perception of it.  As for the ship thing.  I'd like to see someone who had the balls to try :grin:

Whole particles are actually sucked into the black hole. The phnomenon of the virtual particles you are reffering to is called zero point energy. This is when a particle of matter and it's anti matter equivalent are generated from nothing or at least some kind of energy field that permeates the universe which modern science cannont detect. Normally they collide and destroy each other milliseconds after their creation. In theory if one of these particles sets appeared at just the right spot near a black hole one of them could be sucked in and one could escape. This process in theory creates new physical matter in the universe. However it's said that energy(matter) cannot be created or destroyed but only change form. To make up for the new energy(matter) added to the universe the black hole shrinks an amount equivalent to the particles energy (an extremely small amount). I'm no quantum physicist, but i do beleive i am correct.

I saw something on the discovery channel about that.  Something like u could reach the other side before light could and so you would have exceeded the speed of light or something like that.  I don't know :confused:

Doesn't this happen because somehow singularities violate the quantum uncertainy principal? I think I remember reading a few years ago that the big bang singularity and the center of black holes were "smeared" out because the went below the Planke(sp) energy.

I started to get into physics pretty heavily a few years ago,but I felt I was loosing my sanity,so I stopped.

I'm no mystic,but after my study of of quantum mechanics I fully believe that the universe has some kind of "consciousness".
