Either 4 or 2 years...though I've heard if you only take the 2 year course you'll be cleaning up puke and wiping a lot of asses

I don't know what it is in the US, though.

4 year = RN (registered nurse)
2 year = RPN (registered practical nurse)

There is a 2 year program (ASN/RN) here in the JC's that I am into,I will do the trench work for a couple of years, and get my BSN. Then I will be a travel nurse making excellent cash, contributing to society, and travelling. Everybody wins!

Dude that's nothing.  I go to a pretty small Uni and I've had people in my classes that were easily 50 or older.

I say do it

It's never too late to go back to school, unless you have terminal cancer or something...

This man speaks the truth.

We had a guy in my cell bio lab that was 48 and everyone loved talking to him. Don't be afraid you'll be ostracized because you're in your mid 20s, especially if you're going into science. It tends to be pretty common.

Hell, I'm in my mid 20s and am about to finish up my degree. Yeah, I feel old being around the freshmen folks, but it's kinda cool at the same time. With age usually comes respect. Keep that in mind.

Nurses are in high demand right now and they usually make damn good money, especially RNs.

I know plenty of male nursing students.

I've never understood the mentality that you can't go to school after a certain age. What's the rush? If anything, you're more likely to do a lot better in school now than you would have directly after high school. I feel that after high school, everybody needs a break. Everybody says "Don't take a break! You'll never go back!" Yeah...that's because of the mentality that it's "too late" or something. If you're in your 40's, and you want to take some classes, why the fuck not!? It's never too late to go to school.

wikipedia 'neuroplasticity', in short, the brain is most malleable before age 25.

As true as that may be...what are you implying? That nobody over 25 should go to school? Sorry but, not a good enough reason IMO.

negative ghostwriter, you asked why people have the mentality of getting school done ASAP, and I offered a logical reason.

Intelligence can be improved greatly in school while the pre frontal cortex is still developing until age 21...and I would guess that it would be easier in this sense to do well in school than to shoot the shit at Wal Mart until you're 25 and then decide to go back..

But you bring a good argument as well, usually people in their mid 20s have better judgment than people under 20(theoretically, at least) and may be a bit more responsible in their studies....

I highly support people going back to get their education(my father was a taxi cab driver for 8 years before getting his B.S, M.B.A, and Engineering certificate and worked his way up the ranks as VP of Intelsat). Intelsat is an Aerospace engineering company. He finished all his studies when he was 32.

I just graduated with an Electromechanical Technology degree at 37, started at 31.

Never felt like an outcast. Most of the girls there were too immature for me, but some of them were ok. Unfortunately, there weren't many women in my department.
