Whats the average mental age of people who make up averages on the spot?

Also, wtf is a mental age?

"During World War I, the US Army administered group intelligence tests under the direction of Robert Yakes. More than 1.75 million men had taken either the Alpha or Beta version of the test by the end of the way and provided an excellent statistical sample from which conclusions could be drawn about the abilities of US men of that era.

The results were shocking. Analysis of the data revealed that the average army recruit had a mental age of 13 years--3 years below the 'average adult' mental age of 16 and only 1 year above the upper limit for moronity..."(Bordens 16)

I disagree.

Try again, thats not what I said.  The study you quoted, its concept of a mental age, and the assumption that demographics 100 years ago are relevant are all bull shit and an obvious (lame) attempt to slander the original poster.

edit - My reading of this modern document on tests in the military, http://www.defenselink.mil/prhome/poprep98/html/2-afqt.html implies that military people are very slightly above average in IQ. (I believe that between category IIIA and IIIB is the average 100 IQ)

I've never understood the mentality that you can't go to school after a certain age. What's the rush? If anything, you're more likely to do a lot better in school now than you would have directly after high school. I feel that after high school, everybody needs a break. Everybody says "Don't take a break! You'll never go back!" Yeah...that's because of the mentality that it's "too late" or something. If you're in your 40's, and you want to take some classes, why the fuck not!? It's never too late to go to school.

The problem is when your in your 40s you very likely have responsibilities like family, kids, career/job, mortgage, etc.  These things prevent you from devoting the time necessary to succeed.

You know most people who join the military are not stupid, They are just poor.  Its provided an opportunity's I couldn't have had otherwise. Now what state was the education system was on the eve of world war one? Now if you wiki that  or you could crack open a book. A study done when at the same time the US was playing with eugenics. Also while the very field you are quoting was in it infancy. Take wiki shove it up your ass.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Either 4 or 2 years...though I've heard if you only take the 2 year course you'll be cleaning up puke and wiping a lot of asses

I don't know what it is in the US, though.

4 year = RN (registered nurse)
2 year = RPN (registered practical nurse)

I'm going back to school for nursing next fall! Kind of a 180 for me...as the last time I was in school it was for computers :smirk:

What happened with the computer? Was it more than what your expected or something? I'm just wondering cause that's what im looking into. I'm no computer guru, but writing and testing software facinates me, even though i dont realy know anything about it.

It's too saturated, for starters! Way too many BCs's out there. Going to school for computers almost killed my love of the machines, too!

Nursing is in high demand, and will be in even higher demand in the coming years (as those baby boomers get older). Plus I can work pretty much anywhere with a nursing degree.

See my last post...

It's just over saturated right now. Like way over saturated.

Computers were always my love. I got started with them when I was I just 5, in 1986. Quickly they became my best friend (sad, I know). I remember when I learned how to program in Basic, which led to Assembler (a dead language). I spent a lot of time in school, crouched in the back of class over a printout of a program, debugging it.

Ahh, memories.

As true as that may be...what are you implying? That nobody over 25 should go to school? Sorry but, not a good enough reason IMO.

You must not have seen my post a while back about how I was sick of society acting like getting married and having children is what everybody is SUPPOSED to do. It's not. Getting married and raising a family is not for everybody.

However, you said "very likely". So if that happens to be the case, then yeah, it probably would rob you of some time.
