The problem with America...
    #10952114 -

I think Alexander Tyler said it best in the mid 1700's.

    A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

        * From bondage to spiritual faith;
        * From spiritual faith to great courage;
        * From courage to liberty;
        * From liberty to abundance;
        * From abundance to complacency;
        * From complacency to apathy;
        * From apathy to dependence;
        * From dependence back into bondage.

I think this is exactly what is happening in America. Here is the url btw. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Tytler

Feel free to discuss.

So we recently went from abundance to complacency?

Timelines would be nice

Interesting take on the idea. It seems that things do happen in cycles especially regarding civilizations and history, but it's going to get interesting for the human race as we enter into a global society because the dynamics will change.

No, we are at dependence right now. Obamacare, corporate bailouts, Cash for Clunkers, "economic stimulus", etc.

when 40 percent of the population thinks the earth is 6000 years old, well you have problems.

Yeah, you are right. Didn't think of that. I just didn't want to sit here and write out too much on this post.

But you do agree that time lines would more or less fit perfectly in there for the US's history.

Plus the fact this guy wrote this in like 1770ish.

Damn, we definitely seem to be following whatever was written (and obviously never seen) about the rules of democracy then.

I do think this sort of timeline of progression would be somewhat accurate though.

I completely agree. It sucks that is how things are turning out. All good things must come to an end, I suppose? To be born again, revived, and to start anew.

Im curious where this world will be in the next  couple of years. Looking back at history (which does repeat itself) its time for the next great collapse of civilization, if I do say so myself.

When will bondage occur? And by whom? Obama? Does it have to be dictatorship?

Bondage will occur after the coming mass inflation (which most economists have predicted is coming soon). Since we will all be broke, we will basically be the bitches for someone else who has the money and control. I think that is what leads us next to some form of dictatorship.

But then again, like Rebirtha said, the dynamics will change since we are basically entering or maybe already in a global society.

It is getting interesting...

I am telling you, people are just gonna flip out at the slightest little sign of chaos in 2012, throwing the world into global anarchy.

It's not cut-and-dry. It's a gradual progression. Like all the 2012 talk of humanity's consciousness evolving, it won't just "happen" at one point in time. We are already seeing the bondage intermingled with dependency. Those in power wish to stay in power, by whatever means necessary.

People need to forget 2012. Nothing is going to happen. Life will go on. Yea we will face harsh things politically, economically, and through out the world (war, poverty, etc). It will all increase in intensity (in my opinion).

When it "happens" it may be by way of pain on a global scale. A cull cull of humans would help this planet a lot though. Just think of a planetary population of say 1.5 billion steady. we'd be fine

If everyone in the world became best friends with Lucy, then everything would probably be fixed. LOL

Thats a very positive outlook to have haha :] But seriously this planet is getting out of hand with this crazy population going...the more people we have the more nature is gonna start getting even more fuckin thrown out of whack.

The main difference here being that we have a VERY armed citizenry and the ability to take care of ourselves in certain states.

I cannot see how certain states will not at some point be forced to attempt succession from the "union".
