The Inca trail and traveling south america
    #2695299 - 05/18/04 10:50 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

A friend once mentioned this.... and planted the seed in my head.. My Dad thinks its a weed witch I should pick. But I think it would be one of the most magnifesent jurneys of my life thus far. Just imagine hiking threw the mountains along steep tropical trails peaking mountains then traversing back down into the jungal. It would be such an awsome grounding spiritual expierience walking into one of those ancient cities. I dont know thought I would mention this. This link shows the trail click on the lil dots to get pictures of it machu picchu

I wonder how cheap a guy could do something like that? It probably isn't to expensive. Is there guerilla's or anything raising hell down there right now?

You know, I once defended a small village in the amazon basin with nothing more then a pick axe and a glass of water.

I just finished a Latin American History class last semester and my teacher had just returned from the Inca Trail. He's a native of Peru and told us sooo many awesome stories.

The Inca culture down there was so forgotten for so long after the Spanish slaughtered everyone that they're finding new ruins all the time when someone wanders off the beaten trail.

As for the inca road itself, it looked incredibly cool. Like you say, high mountains, incredibly terracing, steep drops, ancient buildings. If I could scrounge up the money, I'd go in a second. I hear its relatively expensive, as you have to sign on with a group and a couple of native porters, because at the altitude, theres no way you can carry all your things with you.

Its supposed to be very safe in Peru. They dont have alot of the problems that other S. American countries have. If you get half a chance, go in a heartbeat and I'll bet you dont regret it.

There's a road that goes from n america thru central america into s america. It was in bad shape but they fixed it. You could drive there and save money. Might be a cool journey.
I'd watch out for those freaky bugs down there though!

i'd be a bit wary of going unless you knew people living in the areas which you'll be travelling through. i'm sure most people mean nothing but love, but overwhelming poverty (plus the general feeling that the US is the cause of it) might cause people to act stupidly...

but it does sound like a great idea!
