It's so completely ingrained into who we are that I think it's an absolutely impossibility that we could ever give it up. It's everywhere, giant trucks, cars that go faster than you'll ever drive, houses and apartments so big they're actually a burden, mp3 players that hold 500 million fucking songs, necklaces that hang down to your pants, cellphones with every imaginable gadget packed into them, the presidents faces engraved into a giant fucking mountain for all time...and the list goes on and on. It's a part of everything we do, and everything we are. It's not just about making things bigger, it's about making them excessive. In the American mindset something has to be excessive to the point of creating a burden to be considered quality.

Do I need 10 televisions the size of a refrigerator in a 3 bedroom apartment? Fuck yeah I do, I need them so much I'll actually lower the quality of my life to have them, and that's America bitch!

Thanks for giving me an insight into your culture. There's really something to be said for subtlety, something which i think people are really missing out on while they are surrounded by this larger than life fireworks show which is modern entertainment.

Australia certainly has its own problems, many of which are similar to what you have described. I find it very hard to explain, but Australia has its own form of nationalism and i believe nationalism always breeds a certain dangerous ignorance.

America is not a democracy. It is (or was supposed to be) a federal republic types of governments. Democracies are not stable, whilst republics are. The founding fathers were aware of that.
