Top Chef Season 6

After the complete debacle that was the season 5 finale (Hosea, really?  He's top chef?  The guy who couldn't fillet an eel or cook a halibut?)



This season has alot of familiar faces for me.  Michael Voltaggio i met while eating at The Bazaare, Eli I've seen him through Richard Blais' videos,  been to Eric Ripert's 10 Arts in Philly (i still feel his food is a bit overrated)...


Anyways, first episode was pretty good at being able to see what each contestant brings to the table.


I think out of all of the elimination dishes, i liked the Jerk rubbed bass the best.



I mean you can see the grotesque monotony that is the result of formal cullinary training  (how many people poached their halibut?  How many parsnip purees did we see?).




Anyways, the first elimination of the season is always the funniest because u have no idea how they got on the show.

You aint lyin about Ripert being overrated.  Le Bernadin was delicious but not worth the cost and definitely not a 3 star Michelin restaurant.  Honestly Ive had fish that about equaled it at many other restaurants.

i went to cafe firenze the other day



i actually thought it was one of the best italian comfort meals i've had in a while.


I remember u saying u didn't think it was all that special.  What did u order when u were there?


I ordered a whole bunch of pasta dishes and steaks, and pretty much everything that came out of the kitchen was impressive to me.

Ha you went to Moorpark?  Damn you should have let me know.  Ive had a few things from there including a pasta dish with the most strong cheese Ive ever had in it.  Good but I spent a long time afterwards enjoying some diarrhea. I also had a pork chop that basically tasted like a burnt spice mix on the outside and bland sides.  I also got a very delicious pasta dish there once, so eh.  I view it as having probably some decent food, but I havent tried anything there Id really classify as that great.  At night it turns into a Eurotrash bar which is kind of amusing

I believe they have tasting menus where Fabio will make some dishes and come out and sit with you to talk about the food and such.  Not sure if they still do that though

Yup, right off the 118 west.


I'm one of those nuts that's willing to drive out about an hour or more to try a restaurant.


All i can say is, the braised beef cheek ravioli with cream sauce and balsamic drizzle was absolutely delicious.

As was the veal shank and braised Kobe Beef.

Ah yea I live about 30 minutes from there, though I know people in the Simi Valley area.  I think its possible you just like Italian food more than I do honestly.  I had a martini with a balsamic reduction in it there.  Actually fairly decent though Im not terribly into mixed drinks.  That place has some interesting martinis in general though.

im pretty peculiar with italian food actually.  Although yes it is one of my favorite cuisines.  I spent a summer on the Amalfi coast just eating at local trattorias....


i was only in the area cuz i have a friend out in van nuys who works in the porn industry.




URASAWA TOMMORROW BABY!!!  Man...i can already smell the fresh uni and foie gras shabu shabu....
