Re: Orton [Re: whattheheck]

Nice change of subject.

Running the ball hasn't been innovative since the inception of football. I realize that the Broncos (with Shanahan at the wheel) made it a consistently successful operation, but it isn't innovative. If anything the new breed of small and quick offensive linemen were the innovation, and that was 10 years ago (which is more like a century in any pro sports league but especially so in the NFL.)

Face it. Your defense sucks, you downgraded at QB, and you don't have a decent running back, let alone the coach that made the specific running back irrelevant. You're team is fucking done, and probably will be until they either get new ownership or right their ship with a complete change of coaching and personnel (notice how successful the rest of the Belichick's coaching tree has been?)

Oh dont give me that crap and act like Denver fans weren't idiots to begin with.

They were ragging on Jay the first season he was starting.

Oh my.

So how much time have you spent here in Denver the past few years?

Fending off all of the arguments about something that, let's face it, DOES NOT MATTER AT ALL, is too much for me.

The fact remains that Jay had a vision for himself and his role in the offence with Shanahan, he was not going to get anything near what he was promised, and was pissed. McD then looked to trade him and all hell broke loose.

McDaniels is planning on doing new things, and one of them is not letting his QB ad lib and call his own shots. No, I know, he didn't do a whole bunch of new things in the first pre-season game of the year, so I guess must not be true

The bottom line is. I don't care nearly enough about this to keep going on about it. I should have stopped weeks ago.

Yes, I have to live in Denver to read all the articles and local internet posts by sports fans who've ragged on Jay Cutler since his first season as a starter.

Brilliant logic there.

Its actually kind of absurd that you're trying to deny this, when it was such an echoed theme throughout Jay's career in Denver.

I'm not basing anything on preseason football. I didn't even know exhibition games started until about 4 hours ago.

I don't need an exhibition match to tell me that it was a fucking retarded trade and Broncos fans are pulling the wool over their eyes.

Some people actually care about the character of the people they employ and expect certain things out of them. Jay Cutler poisoned the water here, period. There was no looking back.

And as far as to "knowing" that the Denver fans crapped all over Jay from day one, well, I'm not sure where you got that other than I know that people online spend the majority of their time arguing and bitching about things, and here in Denver, where the people actually go to the games, until he

A. Said that he had a stronger arm than Elway "No doubt about it"

B. Led the team to the largest collapse in NFL history

C. Called Bowlen a liar

He was LOVED here. I doubt Penguarky or Gastronomicus are going to argue with that.

Well considering Gastro has time and again admitted that he essentially doesn't actually know what he's talking about I'll wait for PT to chime in, but it probably won't matter since my opinion is formed.

Re: Orton [Re: jewunit]

And it's cool to have an opinion. The bottom line is, the way Jay acted and what he did was treacherous and inexcusable, unprofessional doesn't even begin to describe it.

And considering that Gastro has lived in Denver all of his life and lives about 15 minutes from Mile High stadium, I'm sure he can be relied upon to make a statement about the way Bronco's fans felt about Culter before he went trick. Certainly one that carries more weight than what people who live hundreds, if not thousands of miles away believe.

Re: Orton [Re: whattheheck]

I think I gave a good analogy why distance doesn't really matter, but to be honest it has nothing to do with my argument.

I don't give a fuck what Denver fans felt about Cutler for his career as a whole, I'm simply saying it was a bad trade and Denver didn't improve. On top of that the 10 year outlook is really irrelevant since any decent team isn't worried about a 10 year outlook as much as a 1 or maybe even 2 year outlook.

Re: Orton [Re: jewunit]

Denver is at least a 2 year rebuilding process, and more likely 3, something Shanahan could never accept. And I was addressing the argument about the way Broncos fans felt to Smoke, I just couldn't quick reply to both of you.

So Jay has what, 7 years of prime left? And about half of that would have been wasted as McD molds the program in his image.

And while we're at it, all the talk about how Josh is going to suck, well, how many successful coaches are there in ANY sport?

My whole argument is that Jay is an intolerable pima donna and I cannot, off the top of my head think of anyone in sports I would have a harder time cheering on. If he had stayed in Denver, unless he came forward and apologized to Pat Bowlen and the fans, I would not, and could not root for the Broncos.

Oh, and at the end of the day, I'm going to trust the man who has assembled two different groups that have gone to the Super Bowl a total of 5 times in the past 24 years. What's stupid about that?

Re: Orton [Re: whattheheck]

No actually Shanahan got fired.

Oh, you actually think McDaniels had anything to do with forming any of those Pats teams? HAHA.
Look where the rest of that tree is. At the fucking bottom, that's where. Weiss sucks, Romeo sucks, Mangini sucks. All fucking failures.

Oh wait no, you mean the Broncos owner? Yeah, he assembled them with Shanahan at the helm. So why are you okay with Shanahan gone, a betting-man's shittier coach in control, and the same ownership?

Face it, the fucking outlook is grim.

By the way I'd take 3 years of rebuilding with a pro bowl QB and another 3-4 of success with the same pro-bowl QB than a MINIMUM of 3 years rebuilding with a guaranteed worse QB and another who knows how many years with who knows what QB.

There's literally no way you can spin this to be a good idea beyond morals, and that's EXTREMELY insignificant. I know how you feel about steroids and lets not pretend that "issue" doesn't extend beyond baseball.

You mean Invesco Field?

But really, Cutler is a way better QB then Orton is, by huge amounts. That was a stupid trade, actually just a stupid situation in general. McDaniels managed to piss off the only thing the Broncos had going for them, a good QB, incredibly quickly. The Broncos will likely suck incredible dick this season, especially after seeing Orton's miraculous couple of public performances. He not only threw 3 picks tonight, but threw 3 picks in the first public practice. As for the opinion of Cutler in Denver, for the most part it was pretty ambivalent. John Elway is still the only Broncos QB who has mattered but at least Cutler was better then Brian Griese. Gonna be a long rough season for the Ponies this year. Go Broncos

I was talking about Pat Bowlen. Who has sat on and chaired some of the most powerful committees in the NFL throughout the years, and besides being above reproach and an outstanding human being and citizen, has been ranked in the top 100 (and 50) of the most powerful men is sports several times cince he bought the Broncos.

THIS is who Jay Culter and his agent played out in the media. THIS is the man that Jay wouldn't call back. The man who gave the go ahead for his drafting, who signed his checks, who thought they were friends.

What a slimey punk.

Well, yeah, in comparison to John Elway, NOBODY, will EVER stack up. People here put him on a pedestal. He is literally a living god in Colorado, it's a little weird.  But the initial reaction to the dust up was that McD had to go, not Jay. Gastro, did you read the papers when this was going down.

For the record, AGAIN, I am NOT saying that trading Culter was a good idea if that's what McD initially intended, but while that is what was originally reported, that is NOT the accepted version of the way it went down now. At least according to the journalists who follow the team and actually know these guys.

Either way, it's done.
