First bulk recipe , input requested

Hello so I decided on my first bulk grow tell me what you think. I just want to make sure before I do this.

4 cups cow poo.
2 cup Verm.
1/4 cup garden lime.
1/4 cup used coffee grounds.

Any input would be helpful . I will be spawning using Brf cakes. Thank you.

that sounds like a good recipe, make sure to grind your cow poo so there is no clumps whatsoever in your ground poo. i prefer horse poo just because it is easier. you can break it up with your hands.

a cheese grater works well. :thumbup:

Yeah I bought it from the store. I live in a city of 3 mil so  it was a pain to find since its all seasonal around here.

that's not good usually cow poo bought from the store has low nutritional value for mushrooms, unless it is Black Kow (Blak kow sp?) brand. you want to go pick some up from a field that is dry and has whitish areas on it. check to see if any bugs have hollowed out the inside of it. you want the stuff that is not very compact.

If you can find horse poo, use it.  It's free and it works great just by itself.

its MOO Nure brand. and again the nearest farm is like 40 miles away. I dont have a car.

You don't need lime in your substrate. 

Just add enough vermiculite to make it "feel right".  Go by how it looks and feels instead of specific "recipes".

It's a good idea to add gypsum to any bulk sub.  It adds calcium and sulfur and is used in commerial mushroom farming.  It makes up up to 10% of the total volume of the sub.  i eyeball it and probably do a little less than 10%.

Good hpoo will have a better consistency by itself than cow manure will, which many need to add straw or vermiculite to. ~Pixie~

How should it feel?  as for other types of poo is going to be a no go till I get out of the city or special order it. Again nearest farm is over 30 miles away

I'm no where near farmland either,coir would be my bulk substrate of choice get the buy 2 get 1 free bricks when they have them and buy every one they have and stock up:thumbup:
