Bulk Compost - Halted?
    #1138307 - 12/13/02 11:42 AM (14 years, 1 day ago)

I currently have 3 containers of bulk (compost + a little vermiculite) and they don't seem to be colonizing the way they should. The chunks of mycellium from the cake are getting bigger, but it doesn't seem to be penetrating the rest of the compost...any ideas?

I don't think there are any contams...No foul smells, no funny colors...

could be the moisture content, was the dung aged/dry before use? and was the dung packed down tight?

It's actually compost I bought from the store...steer manure and natural forest waste. It is not dry, not too wet either...maybe a little too wet there is a lot of condensation...not very compact...

well here's the problem!
THe compost you got from the store is crap!
Not good crap but worthless crap...
I know trust me... It will get fuzzy blotches of mycellium but will never colonize. This is the way it is with most store bought compost in my experience...
That does suck man cause compost yeilds good if it's the good shit!

Do I have an option to buy any bulk substrates at the store?  It's raining right now so I think I'll have a hard time finding good poo in the cow fields...I would like to transfer the mycellium from my old bulk trays to the new ones if that's possible...to save my hard work   Thanks for the help...stupid me :P

If you can buy some worm casing you can transfer to that make sure to mix 50/50 with peat moss and verm
That'll at least save you from total loss...
nursery should have some worm casings...
