Casing without vermiculite ?
    #1372392 - 03/13/03 09:24 AM (21 years, 11 days ago)

Kosovar refugees down my street asked the pimpstress upstairs whether it is possible to case without vermiculite at all (or perlite), since they live in France and its impossible to find vermiculite except at hardware suppliers for gardening stores, who buy them in bulk (100 l.)for their mixes, and those suppliers are located in the far faraway suburbs.
Is peat (Stamets' recipe from what they've gathered) a suitable alternative, and if so, for what strains? If not, is there a solution for those psychedelic-loving refugees, so I can prevent them from doing it?

try coco coir (in bricks, from pet shops)

peat works fine too, but the added verm gives extra water-holding features. and peat can be acidic, so a little lime, or oyster shell (pet shop again) may be handy.

hope i helped

Hardwood sawdust can be used.
